I got into UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, and Northwestern. I plan to do pre-med and go to med school. Which of these would be best choice so that I can get in med school? Northwestern is much more expensive; >50,000 per year. But it also gives its students opportunities not given in the UC's. I can't seem to choose... Which one would you pick if you were planning to go into medicine? Thanks a lot.

First of all, wait until the FA packages come out. You might be pleasantly surprised. As an in-state resident, I would've graduated from Berkeley with $20,000 in debt. I instead opted to go to Cornell and graduated with $30,000 in debt (Cal gave me no grants while Cornell gave me significant amount of grants). In my opinion, $10k-20k is more than worth it to go to a school that you'd really like.

In terms of premed preparation, outside of the smaller classes at NU, there's probably not much difference. Neither school is going to increase your chances of getting into med school. Your decisions right now should be to decide which school you like better vs. how much more/less each school is going to cost.

I'm with NCG about waiting for FA packages. (If you're ineligible for FA, then pick NU.) I'm not so sure Northwestern won't increase your chances at all; of course it's a mild benefit at MOST.
