Which school in your opinion has a stronger theater department? Which school does theater matter to the students, faculty, and surroundings more?

Northwestern. Chicago Theater scene is phenomenal for development, and there are many NU radio / television / film / theater alums in LA and NYC.

You may want to post this as well on the Theatre & Drama Majors forum.

Thanks I will do that.

If you’re truly serious about theater AND getting a top tier education, Northwestern’s program is hard to turn down. On campus offerings are endless and there is a very real opportunity to find professional work in Chicago. If you look at places like Lookinglass and Steppenwolf (Second City, of course, if comedy’s your thing), every other person seems to fly a Northwestern flag. The department also offers internship opportunities during the school year in LA and NY if you veer bicoastal. The alumni connections are as powerful in both cities as they are in Chicago.

Definitely Northwestern

No offense to Penn, but I’ve never heard anything about their theater department.
OTOH, Northwestern’s theater department is one of the finest in the country. I think NU and Penn are similar in many, many regards, but in this area, how is there possibly any comparison?

And to your question of identity - theater matters greatly to the spirit of the NU undergraduate campus as a whole, even to the non-theater majors. Everyone goes to the plays / shows, especially Waa-Mu, which is a tradition that unifies the campus.

You can hardly watch a major TV show without seeing an NU alum be prominent.

Plus, it elevates the looks of the student body. Ha ha.
