Hey everyone, I'm sure it's been asked before but I really need help deciding between these three colleges.

I know that Northwestern and WashU are ranked the same and UofM is a bit lower but hopefully I might get into the honors college at Michigan.

What do you think?, By the way I am an In-State resident of Michigan about 30 min from Ann Arbor, so cost wise my choice is clear, but my parents are willing to pay for the "better" college.

Please help me with my choice, I would really appreciate it.

Academically, all three schools are excellent. If WUSTL and NU come at full price, this is a no brainer, regardless of major, since Michigan is ranked as high as WUSTL and NU in virtually every field of study. Here’s how I see it:

Michigan for $100,000 >>> NU and WUST for $200,000

u can save the 100k for grad school or travel and study abroad, or to found a company.

also, it is funny how a 2 yr old thread could still be fun to read and from which some info can still be gleaned.

I wonder what the update on the state of mi economic prognosis is since 08? prolly worse, I imagine. OP, u might want to factor that in,too. Maybe compare the job placement performance between the candidate schools, the avg salaries from the LAST graduating class, for example.

^^^Michigan almost runs independently from the state anymore. The school has one of the largest endowments of any university in this country. U-M figured out years ago that it couldn’t completely rely on state funding to maintain it’s excellence. Most other public universities are not so fortunate. The economy of the state is almost a non-factor when you look at The University of Michigan.
