Northwestern VS WashU VS Grinnell VS Emory

Yes, those are my choices, what do you think?

whats your major? geographic preference? finaid?

Absolutely Wash U! No doubt. Check my similar thread...

if its prestige, i'd go with northwestern..

Northwestern!

well I'm pretty much undecided, I'm well-rounded... on my apps I said Chem/Econ/Bio so maybe a little science biased but yeah, I live in stl so that's why I would favor going to Northwestern over WashU cause I live here! Anymore?

Grinnell...like the close-knit community, the amazing resources, the small classes, the personal attention, the great grad school percentage rate, the science facilities, the cooperative atmosphere, the undergraduate research opportunities, not having to compete with grad students for lab work, etc...

It does depend on what you want, however. If I were you, my list would look like this:

Grinnell
Wash U.
Northwestern
Emory

Just an opinion.
IB

Grinnell will offer you a great community and the most interesting, well-integrated curriculum. From my perspective, it is the best undergraduate experience and would set you up for a fine range of graduate schools.

oooh wow that's exactly what I was thinking! But I dunno, cornfields of Iowa? That sounds a little boring, but I mean.. it's only college!

Grinnell has tons to do...

Brings in lots of people. While I was visiting friends there....I got to sit down with Amy Tan. We sat cross-legged and hung out with like 15 other people in the stdent center between North and South campus. Amazing latenight conversation.

Before that, I had been considering going to universities...but because of that experience (there were several more including listening to Yo-Yo Ma), I seriously looked at the LACs. And--surprise--all my top choices are LACs.

Grinnell is simply amazing.
IB

i think washu is the best of those schools

yeah I'm going to visit during the admitted students weekend in 2 weeks, I'll just have to see how it is and if it all seems right to me I guess!

bump? should I cross emory off my list?

grinnell vs (norwestern, wustl, emory)
if your answer is (northwestern, wustl, emory)
northwestern- most prestigious among (norwestern, wustl, emory) chicago is a great city.
wustl- second most prestigious and stl isn't that bad of a city
emory- the least prestigious and atlanta is just a shiithole (sorry but i cant find a better word)

Are you visiting Emory as well? Or did you visit the university?

It's all about fit and feel. If possible visit before knocking out Emory. You might be surprised. Different people like different things.

IB.

Northwestern.

emory and washu are both overrated and grinnell isnt on par with northwestern in terms of prestige or academics.

Northwestern, i heard Wash U is in pretty boring neighborhood

yeah everyone says northwestern at shcool, teachers adn students, but in princeton review, they ranked northwestern's academcis as an 88 should that be a worry to me?

If you are going to study bio, you have to consider Emory (CDC,...). Also, if you favor urban environments Emory wins hands down!

if you wanna do bio--washu
if you wanna do chem/econ--northwestern
not sure about emory; heard their bio is good?
grinnell..hmmm..it's hard to compare LAC with research U.

among all rankings out there, princeton review is the least looked at by people. the "academic rating", in spite of its name, is not a measure of caliber of faculty or reputation of academic programs.
