Northwestern vs washu

I’m applying for one of these schools ED but I don’t know which one. I going to study neuroscience. I know both of them are amazing in academics so that’s not really my deciding factor. I’m having trouble deciding what is more important to me. I love the fact that NU is by Chicago which is a place I’ve always wanted to live and Lake Michigan and the fact that it is a big 10 school so social life will be great. But at WashU, I’ve noticed that they are ranked better in terms of quality of life(dorms, food, etc) and apparently the students are very friendly and it is right off forest park. also I live about 20 minutes away from STL, and I kinda wanted to go farther away for school and STL isn’t near as exciting as Chicago. I’ve visited both campuses and thought both were beautiful.

I need help! Also if anyone knows the situation of NU’s food and dorms let me know because I haven’t been able to find much info on that.

If the schools are that close in your evaluation, maybe you should consider the net cost in deciding. Neither school is cheap, but they are both great schools. Don’t worry about where you will live unless one option is dangerous or something like that. You can always move to Chicago as an adult if that is your dream.

My son visited Wash U and NU and decided on NU. After 3 years, there are no complaints about food or dorms. When considering location, keep in mind that close can be a good thing too. NU is @ 1 hr from home - which is good - we can go visit when invited and see him play sports, and make presentations.

1hour from home? You must live in a nearby suburb.

Well, obviously nugraddad lives in a nearby suburb. What did you say prior to your editing?

@jennacv97 Are you thinking of neuroscience as a prelude to medical school, or as a prelude to an advanced science degree?

I was originally thinking medical school but I’m not sure yet.
