<p>Does anyone know the size of Northwestern's waitlist? Given the presumably large size of the waitlist and the slim number of slots, I struggle to remain optimistic. I would think that the record number of applicants could lead to a record low yield, spelling opportunity for waitlisted applicants. However, I read that yield exceeded predictions in past years and Northwestern aims to increase the number of transfer slots. Transfer admissions might become the new de facto waitlist.</p>
<p>Can’t find the actual data, but past sizes have been around a constant 3,000. The record number of applicants is only a 3% increase from last year so I won’t expect too much difference from the year 2010-2011 with yield increasing for the last couple years. </p>

I’m really confused how acceptance rates work though. I’m pretty sure my letter said that there were ~32,000 applications and they accepted 2,000 (I’m pretty sure this includes early decision/action applications too). So…wouldn’t that mean that NW’s acceptance rate is 6%? Even if you add in the waitlisted students, say 200, it’s still far from the said 20ish% acceptance rate they had in previous years. Maybe acceptance rate calculations are done differently…</p>

their target is to enroll 2025 freshmen students, but they may have sent out 5000 acceptance letters in order to achieve that.</p>
<p>Does anyone know when Northwestern would even start looking at the wait list and offering slots? I was also wait listed UNC and they said the earliest they would notify would be May 20.</p>
<p>I called their office and they said mid to late May. Really disappointed about the waitlist, especially after the HPME interview, but I hope everyone who did receive an acceptance to HPME or otherwise appreciates the opportunity they have been given.</p>
