Hey there guys. Just wondering if anyone knows the stats about how many people get waitlisted, and what % of them get admittance? And, of course, to morally support each other as we all go on to get accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Duke, Columbia, Stanford, Dartmouth, etc. etc. SO, keep fighting the good fight ladies and gents! I'll do the same!

Yep, I was waitlisted too. Solidarity!

An article in the Daily Northwestern says that last year they admitted six students from the waitlist last year, and none the previous year. I’m not feeling optimistic.

[The Daily Northwestern : Class of 2016 has record yield](http://dailynorthwestern.com/2012/05/10/campus/campusarchived/class-of-2016-has-record-yield/)

At least we can say we weren’t flat out rejected…

I got waitlisted as well. I am just happy it wasn’t a rejection. I have other options, so it isn’t the end of the world.

According to last years Common data set, 3,537 students were offered a place on the waiting list, 1,605 accepted that place, and ultimately 14 were accepted off the list This year could be different, however.

…wow. That totally killed my optimistic spirit! Ah well, to better and brighter pursuits!!

From what I’ve seen, most wait lists might as well be a rejection. Third wait list so far for me. Time to move on, I guess…

As a former NU Waitlister turned NU grad, I can hopefully offer some encouragement. My year (2007) over 400 kids got off the waitlist. It really has to do with yield – keep in mind that NU had record yield last year so wait lists were naturally going to be quite low.

I guess that article was inaccurate–wpgm is right. They haven’t actually made their 2012-13 data set available, so last year’s numbers are uncertain, but in 2011-12, 14 were accepted from the waitlist, and in 2010-11, it was 26.

Waitlist statistics are pretty low- I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. :l
NU, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Swarthmore, and other schools of the like usually have adequate commitment/high enrollment so that they don’t have to end up looking too much into their waitlist, if at all.
Most commitment decisions/deposits are due May 1st, and it’s entirely possible that you’d still be waiting around on a waitlist decision then, and by that time you could have already committed to another college.

Anyone heard from NU? People from other schools are starting to hear!

I haven’t heard anything yet. I called Admissions a few days ago, but they weren’t any help (told me I’d hear back in June - yeah right).

JUNE??? why do they say we can start to hear anytime after the 1st of May, if they’re looking at JUNE?! I hope its a bit sooner than that… :S

[The Daily Northwestern : Northwestern admissions office boasts highest yield rate to date](Northwestern admissions office boasts highest yield rate to date)

Sam, thanks for keeping the hope alive. Your posts have always been very informative. With Harvard’s yield at 82%, I’ve pretty much given up on their waitlist, but am anxious for Northwestern!

Schools like wait lists because they don’t have to accept a student who has an opportunity to reject them by accepting another school’s offer. That will increase their yield. That means, that more people are put on wait lists these days. It gives the school a diversified pool of students to chose from. Coming off the wait list has more to do with which spot they need to fill regarding to gender, region, interests, etc.

Carnegie Mellon, for example, has a “priority” wait list. If you are on a Priority Waitlist and sign a contract that IF you are taken off the wait list, CM will be your first choice school, then they will take you off the wait list. They want the guarantee that you did not just apply to CMU as a safety school.

We’ll definitely hear by June 30th, according to Admissions. I’m hoping calls start within the next couple of weeks.

@cruntwix… Did u call admissions?

Yep. I think, like most schools, NU is calling in waves. Some of us will hear before the scheduled deadline.

Do they actually call people who are accepted? Does anyone have any idea which schools are accepting students off the waitlist?
