Hey everyone. I am coming with a few of my buddies from Canada to watch the game on the 22nd. This is our first college game and we are looking to have the ultimate college football experience...aka we are looking to party! We know nothing about the College, nothing about the Campus, but we have heard the parties are wild. I'm just wondering if it is even possible for us to get into the tailgate parties and the post-game parties?? Also, if anyone wants to volunteer to show a couple drunk Canadians around, we would greatly appreciate that, and pay you in beer!

The mood is going to depend on how we’ll do on those three games prior to that (vs Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Boston College). As of now, we look 50-50 in each of them. We will be heavily favored to beat South Dakoda.

Our parties are not that wild compared to many others; this is not a party school but a top one in the US; think of it as McGill or U of Toronto.

I’m sorry to say, but you picked a bad game to go to. The majority of the students won’t even be moved in yet. South Dakota is an easy opponent, so the game likely won’t be close. And Northwestern is not known for its sports. You can still find ways to have fun though!

Sorry to back up what Twins127 and Sam Lee have said, but Northwestern is not known for being a “party school,” and this is not a great game to find parties. Most of the upperclassmen will not have moved back in yet, and it will be mostly freshmen on campus.

Also - someone correct me if I’m wrong on this - but September 22 will still be Welcome Week, right? And Welcome Week is, I believe, supposed to be dry according to University policy, even for people who are 21 or older. Of course that doesn’t mean that a certain amount of drinking won’t take place anyway, but it certainly won’t help with the party situation.

Thanks for the replies guys. Thats too bad we are there for a ****ty game. I think I will show up with a case of beer and some food and hope we find a group of people that are willing to party. I’m sure we will be able to find a group that wants to party.

Also, I have heard that the Keg was a pretty good place to party and also heard the frat parties are fun. Are those tough to get into if i’m not a NW student? We are all 21 so getting into bars isn’t really an issue, just wondering if I needed like a NW student card or anything like that?

The vast majority of the student body will not be back on campus until 9/24. That’s the first day that anyone other than freshmen living on campus is permitted to move in. Even though some of the frats will be open by then, many of them will not have many students living in them yet and won’t necessarily be into the party scene by then. And by the way, the abbreviation is NU as in Northwestern University, not NW as in North Western. ;)

The keg will be hopping at night, but thats hours after the game. The parking lots around the stadium are mostly older alumni – long term season ticket holders. You’ll have better luck walking around the SPAC parking lot. There will be a lot of off-campus tailgates hosted by the frats trying to woo freshman. You’ll likely be able to walk right up to them – if anyone asks just say you are freshmen living in Bobb (be sure to wear purple). I dont know any of the exact addresses, but wander along Hamlin, Foster, Garnett, or Simpson between Sherman and Ridge and you’ll find a couple.

The student section has actually been pretty strong these past few games so I’d expect a pretty decent turnout, especially with our strong start. You may have trouble getting into the student section without a student ID so watch out for that, but I wouldn’t buy tickets til you get there; they’ll be quite cheap from the scalpers.

None of the people know what they are talking about - they’re all old and removed from the NU scene. There will be plenty of people back on campus then and plenty of parties. Northwestern is definitely a party school - maybe not compared to state schools, but among the top 30 or so schools it has one of the best party scenes.

If you want to have a good time do not go to the stadium - walk down Maple/Sherman/Simpson/Gaffield until you find a fun tail gate.

The student section has been rocking for the past 2 games, but then again, it was for games against Vandy and BC.

Considering that the 3-0 start, I expect the students to show up in force even if overall attendance is down a bit.

People who say that NU isn’t a “party school” just don’t know what they are talking about.

While the party scene may not be as big as the state schools, there definitely is one.

Now, a lot of it is tied up w/ fraternities and they probably won’t have any formal parties this early so if there is any partying going on, it would be more informal and on the “down lo” (tho not sure how easy/difficult it would be for non-students to get in).

There are a few places to drink in Evanston, but if the OP wants to really hit the bar scene, he and his buddies should go down to the bars along Halsted (near the DePaul campus).
