Northwestern?

I was wondering what my chances for Northwestern’s theatre program were. Obviously it is a bit of a lottery school, but I’m wondering if I’m even in the running. I know how competitive the program is and how it is even more competitive than the university as a whole so I was just curious for some outside opinions.

Stats
4.83 GPA (almost all honors courses, will have taken 7 AP classes by graduation)
SAT 1450
Lots of theatre ecs (lots of training in recent years, not a ton of shows)
Very academically competitive high school- last year 27 were accepted to Northwestern
Dad is an alum.

I’m a little confused about Northwestern’s admissions stats from the research i’ve done, so I just wanted to check in here and hear opinions from others.

My D’s stats were almost identical, minus the legacy status-and I was pretty confident that she would have earned admission, had NWU made her list. Hey, the only 100% no is if you don’t throw your hat in the ring-so go for it, and good luck!

If you are certain that Northwestern is your #1, applying ED increases chances significantly

I am a senior and already sent in my app RD. Kind of regret not doing ED but I chose not to ED anywhere in case I didn’t get enough money to attend my top choice.

If you have already submitted - what’s done is done. I get looking for reassurance… and you are certainly in the ballpark - but it’s in the hands of fate. Now the long wait until March…

@mtmaybe did you submit a musical theatre supplement as well? My S has similar SAT and GPA as you (though I think your GPA scale is different). I think you have a really good shot. Does Northwestern weight parental attendance? That might really help. My son has no such connection.

I did submit the supplement!

My daughter had the same high stats–9 AP classes, over 4.0 GPA, 1500 SAT (which was a 2230 on the 2400 scale), 34 ACT. She applied regular decision, did not send the theater supplement, and we have no family legacy. She was waitlisted, and she took herself off of the waitlist when she was accepted to other schools that she’d be happy with, so I don’t know if she’d have ultimately been accepted.

My son is a freshman theatre major at Northwestern this year- he similarly had a high GPA, very strong test scores, submitted the MT supplement, performed consistently throughout high school. He went to an academically strong high school, and was a partial IB student. He is also a multi-instrument musician and choral singer. He loves Northwestern! Best of luck to you!
