Just curious, does Northwestern rival schools like columbia and dartmouth.. or is it more along the lines of carnegie melon and and emory?

I know none of these schools are bad by any means, but I like Northwestern and Dartmouth equally (strangely enough) and wanted to see reputation wise (we all know we have some interest in reputation), what level it is at.

Depends. CMU business and comp sci reputation is probably even better among recruiters but the rest of CMU except for drama/arts is probably lower (such as the HSS school). Likewise, I think Emory is very good at pre-med?

Northwestern's rep overall is close enough to the Ivies that it shouldn't matter. If you like it then apply and go there.

Northwestern is a great school. I would say it is closer to Columbia and Dartmouth than it is to Carnegie Mellon and Emory, but Carnegie Mellon and Emory are also fine schools.

In the Northeast, Dartmouth and Columbia would be considered above Northwestern. In the Midwest, Northwestern would be above both. In California, none of those three stands above UCLA or Berkeley. In other words, the concept of prestige is related to where you are.

It really depends on where you go in the country. NU's prestige is high in small pockets of the country. I guess the same could be said for all the schools you mentioned, with Columbia probably being the most well-known.
