Yes, and be sure to show a lot of interest. Northwestern uses a system to measure students' interest level. I think they send out waivers to applicants who've shown a certain level of interest.

I didn't have to pay an application fee :)

You seem to have a good chance statistically. Just make sure to let the school know that you are interested in it, and have some knowledge of it (traditions, perspective major, etc), and you should be fine.
e.

by showing interest you mean visiting and sitting in on classes and that sort of thing, right?

Yes. Contact with professors, students, organizations, etc. Participating in the special group sessions they have (if I remember correctly, these exist). Things like that

northwestern waived my app. fee and i don't remember contacting them that much at all, in fact, i think it was my lack of interest that got me wait-listed

I don’t think that it’s about what you actually do, but about what you can make the people reading your application think you did. Now I’m not advising you to lie, but you don’t have to spend time in classes and groups and such. Just research some things and have said research be reflected in your application, in the “why Northwestern” essay and the like, and you should be fine.

by researching "things," what do you mean exactly? Just random facts about NU like the throwing marshmallows thing, or more about the facilities, programs and faculty?

relax man, u have a fine shot

NU doesn't seem to be as random as its stats and rep would indicate.

With that said, no one is a shoe-in, but my perspective on the school has definetely changed a bit in the last year or so (accepted as a freshman and transfer). When I attended Cornell, I was so surprised to see that like every person I knew, whether it be an engineer or arts/sci fellow, were practically all northwestern acceptees. I was like wow, I thought I was one of very few to choose it over northwestern. I guess, I was wrong.

Many of the kids I spoke with said that NU kids just didnt seem that happy, and sites like studentreview.com confirm these kind of allegations. On that website, over 20 kids out of 60 responses said they would not attend if they had the choice to re-do things. A smaller school like Rice, had an equal # of responses, and only 7 that said they wouldnt go again. What does that tell you.

Not much. NW is an incredible school. And I'd be a lot happier there only 30 minutes from Chicago than out in the middle of nowhere in Cornell.

wait...so if i go to a tour or info session, i can get my app fee waived?

i went on a tour and did the infosession. they didn't give me anything while I was there. when do they gie the fee waiver then? do you have to do an interview?
