I scan the CC forums often but am not much in the form of a "poster." I was accepted to the program as stated above in the SoC, and considering the high amount of prestige associated with it, I am quite proud of this accomplishment. Between the academic flexibility and the first-rate education, the program is outstanding which most people seem to know!

However, what piques my - well let's just say confusion - is the fact that I have the ability to take courses in Weinberg CAS and even major in the CAS as well, so the SoC and RTF major seems to almost have a leg up in the sense that it essentially means I can major in both schools. But in the back of my pessimistic brain (haha, look at my name), I feel a bit worried that it was a back door into the university. In my research, I haven't come across any statistics regarding those accepted/denied or how many people applied, and I know that they only typically enroll 70-90 a year. I know how prestigious the program is, but I also would like to know that they selected me because of my creativity/desires/uniqueness instead of only a limited amount of people having applied! Can anyone put an end to my wandering thoughts?

I guess I’m not sure why it really matters. Acceptance into Northwestern is 23% - that’s a pretty crazy rate to get into NU at all, especially into a small school. They accept individuals into the RTVF program without as much care for film experience, like many film programs (NYU, USC) do, so it’s possible that it was just that you “fit” into what they wanted for the program and for the school in general, creatively and personality wise, as well as grades of course. Nevertheless, RTVF is a great major (I’m slightly biased, as it is mine as well =P), and in 2013 they admitted around 230 people into SoC out of 6,000 acceptances total, if that helps

I’m pretty sure you didn’t get in just because they only had a couple applicants. The program is growing in prestige every year.

Yeah, I applied and got into WCAS but I decided to change to RTVF a few weeks ago. The switch was painless, and I don’t even have any film experience (seriously, I have none at all.) The admissions office made it seem like switching between the schools isn’t difficult at all, whether SoC to WCAS or something else, except for switches into Medill. So don’t worry, we’re all smart enough to survive, or else they wouldn’t have picked us.

I don’t mean to sound as if I’m doubting my own intelligence because I’m not. Between my GPA, SAT, etc. I’m well aware that I’m smart enough, but since the college admissions process is such a game, I was simply wondering (in the back of my mind) if I would’ve been accepted to WCAS should I have applied. It’s out of curiosity that I dwell on this topic - did I get accepted only because there was a small population of applicants to choose from?
