This sort of has to do with writing my Why Northwestern supplemental essay, but what make Northwestern Norhtwestern? What is unique about it? What makes it stand out from its peers? Why did you choose Northwestern over your other options? Thanks!

my reasons were very much about a major offered only at NU and a few other schools.

do you know what you want to major in or at least the school you want? and what sort of extra curriculers?

Why would you choose Northwestern? What about NU fits you?

I'd figure out what makes you want to go there and write about that, everyone's got different reasons. They want yours. :)

The website and calling adcoms are huge helps if you want to find a specific major or program that may interest you.

You might try looking at the forest rather than the trees.
Northwestern certainly has some very wonderful specific features, but I believe many people find that what is extraordinary about it is the total package that it offers: first tier academics, faculty and students; a beautiful campus on the shores of Lake Michigan and in a great suburb; having America's "second city" at your doorstep; tons of stuff going on at the campus every week; the great, but not over the top, Greek Life; and a similar sports program.
Northwestern is a very special place. I think it's hard to find another school that offers a combination of elements like it.

WCASParent, i might have to disagree with u on this one. When I visited NU they told us to be specific in the why northwestern satement. The rep said dont just talk about a nice campus, sports, or chicago, we know all of that, what makes nu right for you. I think the trees, to go with the metaphor, are what you should look at. You may want to check out the nu website for info about programs or oppurtunities that may be specific things that interest you.

In my Why NU essay, I pretty much talked about what lead me to engineering - in the last paragraph I highlighted how the Engineering First (Design and Communication) program, solar car team, Design Competition (school wide robotics competition) and hands-on learning at NU tied in with my experiences and how it could help advance me.

I got into McCormick ED for '13 btw.

patsandheels-
sorry for any confusion; i was really responding to the more general aspect of ssnalp's question as to what makes NU NU, rather than recommending what s/he write for an application essay. I was trying to say why its total mix of features makes it a spectacular place to go to college; since i don't know what ssnalp's interests are, i wouldn't hazard a guess as to what would work on the app

o ok got ya my bad lol
