i'm an incoming transfer student, and i was wondering if it would be better for me to live in the northwood apartments or a dorm like baits. i know i'd get a lot more privacy if i were to live in the apartments, but i also want to meet new people.

anybody have ANYTHING to say about northwood? someone from cc has to have lived there..

Run, don't walk, away from Northwood. There's a reason we used to get emails every week offering us free stuff just to take a tour of Northwood. It's a terrible place to live. People think north campus is bad... northwood is in the middle of a forest for god's sake.

northwood is all i get offered as a junior transfer student.. haha.

Live in Baits, if you have some kind of choice. Both of them are meant to be apartment-like housing for graduate students. However, Baits is pretty much entirely converted to undergrads, is closer to Bursley, and you have more people nearby.

baits isn't offered to junior transfers.. only sophomore transfers :T
is northwood that bad? sheesh..

"northwood is all i get offered as a junior transfer student.. haha."

They're looking for people to live in Oxford, you could always try that. There still might be some apartments available on campus also.

how can i 'try' that and get an assignment in oxford? i talked to someone in housing and they said my contract was mailed out and i should be getting it soon.

i also looked at the room swap info online, and i don't see any point in doing this because no one wants to move into northwood anyway, and most of the people are looking to get out of bursley and baits, haha..

They just sent an email around asking for people to switch to Oxford. If you decline the contract you may be issued another, but why don't you just call and ask if there's any way you could live elsewhere (if you haven't already)?

I transferred in 2nd year 2nd semester and lived in Northwood. It wasn't all that great, it's not easy to meet new people around there. Plus it's rather expensive. The only advantage was that most of my classes were on north campus so I only had a short walk to those.

I would recommend considering some off-campus options. I'm living in a co-op house on central now and like it a lot. Good living arrangements, better than average prices and plenty of opportunities to meet new people. The big downside is that you would most likely have to share a room, but that might not bother you much. Some of the houses still have openings for the fall-winter. Check out icc.coop for more info.

Northwood is going to be full this year - and they are adding a convenience store. Last year it was half empty and it was a bit of a ghost town. The apartments themselves are fine. But I recommend you call Housing. They would rather have you live on campus than go off campus -- so maybe they will offer you something in Oxford even tho you are a junior transfer. You might be the only junior transfer there, however.
