Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): FL
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: Crappy Public, yet somehow overly competitive.
[] Ethnicity: Caribbean (Jamaican) Black
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: <$60,000 Bracket
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):[/ul] URM
[/li]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Overcoming struggles. My SAT II Math I score is pretty baller.
[] Weaknesses: Too young to be taken seriously. I’m 16.
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: They understood who I was, what I came from, and where I wanted to go.
[] Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted:[/ul] NYU (Accepted, Scholarship), Rice (Accepted), Emory (Accepted), University of Florida (Accepted, Presidential Scholarship), MIT (Rejected), Wellesley (Waitlisted).
General Comments:

I wouldn’t make that assumption. I think if you look at many who were waitlisted with good stats they admit they didn’t spend a lot of time or effort on their essays. I think a lot of them either felt that they weren’t committed to attending or felt their stats would be enough to carry them and I believe the essay was “very important” in the decision making process. How else could they separate the mass number of 2300+ SAT’s, 30+ ACT’s and 4.XX GPA’s.

Decision: Waitlisted CAS

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2380 (780 CR, 800 M, 800 W)
[] SAT II: 760 Biology E, 780 Literature, 800 Math II

[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: High (all I’m gonna say)
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Test scores, extracurriculars, CA essay
[] Weaknesses: Grades (mitigated somewhat by counselor rec explaining family difficulties junior year), NW essay
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Too good to reject but NW essay didn’t show enough desire for them to take me over similar applicants who wanted it more (Indian kid applying for biotech isn’t exactly unique)
[] Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Accepted to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (safety) and Boston College Arts & Sciences Honors Program, Rejected from MIT, still waiting on Tufts, Hopkins, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Stanford[/ul]
**General Comments: I’m not upset because I understand NW’s position. I will probably opt out of the waitlist, but it depends on how I fare with the six schools I haven’t heard from. **

General Comments: I’m pretty happy with decisions until now. Specially since studying in the United States for undergraduate studies had not crossed my mind until halfway through last year, that’s when I learned about the college admissions process and the SAT. I’m ecstatic of having been accepted to two great schools already when I started preparing reeaally late! Good luck to all those waitlisted and rejected, there are definitely fantastic and very lucky schools that will have you!

My daughter did not get in either. ACT33, GPA 3.8 unwaited, 4.9 waited. NHS pres. Athlete - 2 sports. 11 AP classes. CR #11 in a academy HS.

Unfortunatley - White, Female from the Midwest. Unless you are 35+ with 4.0 you need to be another ethnic background. Plenty of acceptance AF AM with lower scores. Why the special treatment? shouldn’t everyone be “equal”?

Read the link below and it may make some sense to you. Your daughter is not alone.
