Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): (Student council), (Amnesty International), (environmental protection), piano grade 8, electric guitar, musical performances, biology research activity, rock climbing, school magazine editor, volunteer English teaching, website moderation work and other really insignificant activities. Basically, lots of breadth but no depth.
[] Job/Work Experience: None
[] Volunteer/Community service: N/A (see above)
[] Summer Activities: None
[] Essays: Great common app essay, but rushed/cheesy NU supplement essay. I didn’t have a lot of time to research as I decided on my colleges quite late. My essay ended up sounding a bit like an annoying sales pitch…
[] Teacher Recommendation: Did not see. I assume they were okay.
[] Counselor Rec: Did not see.
[] Additional Rec: None
[li] Interview: Went alright. The interviewer wasn’t the most exciting and was very young, but it was still a nice interview.[/li][/ul]

Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): N/A
[] Country (if international applicant): SE Asia
[] School Type: Public, admits very few to top US schools, though quite a few to top UK schools.
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: M
[] Income Bracket: High, did not apply for aid.
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None[/ul]
[/li]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Academics? Rigor of curriculum, though I’m not sure US schools appreciate this.
[] Weaknesses: No outstanding ECs.
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted:Nothing outstanding in my application. Being international. Many more qualified applicants than me. Also, US schools tend not to appreciate the rigor of the IB curriculum.
[] Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Accepted to USC, rejected at Brown. Accepted to UBC, UToronto, McGill[/ul]

General Comments:
Northwestern is my top choice and I’ll definitely be placing my name on the wait list! Sucks to be waitlisted but it was already more than I was expecting, as an international with a relatively poor SAT score. Congratulations to all those accepted!

Decision: Waitlisted

[] Volunteer/Community service: A pretty large amount, though it is not a strong point by any means. Maybe 300 hours or so as a rough estimate.
[] Summer Activities: Went to an elite summer camp, worked, did homework, etc
[] Essays: Pretty strong all around.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Should have been amazing, as both teachers have known me and my family for 4+ years and both taught my favorite/best subjects.
[] Counselor Rec: Should have been really good.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[li] Interview: N/A
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Objective stats, essays, recommendations
[] Weaknesses: Extracurriculars and similar areas
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly don’t know why I was waitlisted. Guess someone else filled the spot better than I did.

[/ul]General Comments: Congratulations to everyone who was admitted! You all deserve it; they picked you for a reason. To those who weren’t so lucky, I’m really sorry for the bad news, but I’m confident that you’ll end up where you should be - I got rejected from my dream school but I’m sure that I’m meant to be somewhere else and am already getting excited about my options.

I’m not sure if I’m going to accept the waitlist spot or not. Probably will, just in case.
