[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: See above
[] Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Accepted to Wash U, USC, UIUC, UMich, UC-Berkeley, Rice[/ul]
General Comments: I thought I had a fair chance as I had already been accepted to Wash U and Rice, but I guess I wasn’t a good fit or didn’t seem like I showed enough interest. Don’t plan to stay on the waitlist, but good luck to those who are sticking it out.

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Err…not too much. I’m a pretty generic Asian applicant as far as academics go, and relatively generic as far as extra-curriculars go, so there are the typical facets such as high test scores…
[] Weaknesses: As aforementioned, my essays were decent, maybe even good, but not great. I lacked strong extra-curricular focus and any stand-out facets.
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: On the whole, I’m a pretty generic Asian applicant, without any outstanding factors, which suits some schools, but may not be what NU is looking for. I don’t begrudge them for their choice, which is perfectly reasonable in the light of how many of us (generic Asian applicants) probably applied.
[] Where else:
Accepted: UChicago, CWRU, OSU
WL: WashU
[/ul]

General Comments:
A little surprised given that lower-performing students were accepted from my school this year and past years, but I was hoping either an acceptance or rejection; I can see why people are a little irked with the wait list. In that light, also not entirely out of the blue in that WashU also was a wait list. This does set up a rather nasty admissions scenario for me going forward…I should probably have chosen lower-tier schools…whoops…
That being said, congrats to those who were accepted! To my numerous fellow waitlists and those who were rejected, this is only what you make of it; this isn’t the first time that NU, or any other school, may have rejected an applicant who later went to HYPSM or another outstanding institution.

Reflection
Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: WEAK SAT SCORE. Plus the applicant pool was probably a tough tough bunch to compete against.
Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Accepted by UCLA and UC Berkeley. Deferred by Yale. Waiting for H and P (one week left oh my goodness).
General Comments: I genuinely fell in love with SESP! Oh and the NU campus too. It came as a confidence depressor because now I will definitely have no CHANCE with H and P. Congratulations though to those who got in! You will have such a great time.

Sorry I just have a question. It seems like a fair amount of people are getting waitlisted and even rejected from northwestern but have gotten into top schools(specifically MIT). Is this common?
I know personally I was rejected from MIT but accepted into other schools like northwestern which although I would be happy to go to, are just not my top choices.

The logic of your premise seems to indicate that you do not consider NU a top school, which may be the source of your confusion in regards to how this might be possible or how often it occurs. Adcom’s at the very elite schools are building highly selective classes from massive applicant pools (often 30,000+), with thousands of valedictorians, perfect SAT scores, concert violinists, - so it should not seem altogether strange that a highly qualified applicant did not make the cut at one school but did fill a role at a different, also highly selective, school.
