Nose Stud

I want to get a tiny diamond nose stud for my 18th birthday. My mom thinks I shouldn't get one because it will hurt my chances during college interviews, and it will look bad for my senior picture.

I have told her that they are becoming very common these days, and I really don't think it'll hurt my chances. And, if she really hates it, the stud can easily be photo-shopped out of pictures. She won't listen.

What could I say to convince her? Should I get the piercing despite her disapproval?

I dont like when chicks get lots of piercings. I think it looks emo. You just want one now, then you get more and more. I dont know why people pierce thier tongues. That would hurt and make it hard to eat. I think if thats her only problem with it, then you should make a deal with her that after you get to college you can get it pierced if you want. And you should make her buy it for you since you for making you wait.

…
I know several people who have nose rings, and their personalities are much different than people (okay, one person) that I’ve known with tongue rings (and different from each other). Socially-acceptable-wise, it’s almost like piercing your ears now, so I get where you’re coming from in saying that it’s common.

I’d say at the very least you could just wait until you were 18 and then re-present your case. I wouldn’t get the piercing without her approval now–it’s just a piercing, and your mother’s respect/etc. is worth more even if she’s strict and won’t listen. Try to think about this from your mom’s perspective, anyway; a nose ring requires care and time to avoid getting infections, and 20 years from now it’s not going to be a big deal.
Just a note, many colleges don’t place heavy weight on their interviews; in the rare case that your nose ring ends up offending your interviewer (who is probably interviewing other students who have dyed their hair, etc. as well, so it’s unlikely you’ll stand out), chances are ridiculously low that it’ll keep you out of a college.

By the way, you could’ve posted this in the Nose Thread. xD
