Not a parent, but I need some suggestions.

My father had initially told me that finances were not a problem so I compiled my college list with little regard to the prices. However he rethought this because it is a lot of money and said he would rather be able to help me financially directly after college and during. So he decided I needed to look at cheaper colleges (financial aid really isn't much help because I most likely will not qualify for anything but merit scholarships). Therefore in the last week I have been trying to make a new list. I will be considered instate in pa and va (I am technically a resident with both of my parents). I want a medium to large size school. I would prefer it to be in a city, but it isn't a necessity as long as it isn't rural. I am going to double major in History and Philosophy and am planning on attending grad school after. Could you please suggest some schools.

William and Mary (a reach)
Pitt
Temple
York

^That is my current list

your preferences are screaming pitt.

affordable at in-state rates: check.
medium to large: check.
urban: check.
strong history and philosophy departments: check (pitt has one of the strongest philosophy faculties in the world).

im not a big state school fan, but under these circumstances pitt seems like an absolute no-brainer.

Pitt and prominence in Philosophy - completely counter-intuitive but absolutely true.
