Freshman year: 1 Honors
Sophomore year: 1 Honors. 1 AP.
Junior Year: 3 Honors.
As a rising senior, I’m considering taking either 2 APs, 3 APs, or even 4 APs.
For the middle tier UCs (Davis, Irvine, SB, and SC), would you guys recommending packing in some extra APs senior year, or is it not that influential or worth it? I believe I can handle the APs but since it is a lot of work, I want to know how necessary it is for me to “up” the rigor of my high school courses. Thanks.
UC’s highly consider GPA, test scores, HS course rigor and essays. If your fellow classmates are taken far more AP classes than you, then you will be at a disadvantage. How many AP classes does your HS offer? How many of your Honor classes are UC approved?
@Gumbymom APs offered: Calc AB, Calc BC, Lit, Chem, Bio, Physics, Compsci, Music Theory, 3 Languages, Statistics, Government, Art, Environmental Science.
So about 15-16 APs offered.
I believe all honors I’ve taken so far are UC approved.
@DrGoogle 3.96 UC Gpa. (I already maxed out the 8 extra points). Do you think I should take as many APS as I can during senior year to improve the rigor
You have a good UC GPA (depending upon major) and by taking many AP’s in your Senior year, you run the risk of jeopardizing your provisional admission if you get below C’s in any of your AP classes. Since you have had only 1 AP so far, 2-3 would probably be the best schedule. If you feel you can handle more, then go ahead a signup but remember you also have college applications to work on during the Fall. Just do your best, apply and see where you stand in the spring in regards to your acceptances. Have you taken any SAT 2 subject tests? These may also help your chances if you get competitive scores. Good Luck.
@Gumbymom
SAT 2 Math: 750
Physics : Taking in October.
I believe I’ll manage B’s and A’s in most of my Ap classes.
Then go for it!! Good Luck.
Don’t go crazy senior year. Max is 5 APs, you need time for college apps.
@DrGoogle @Gumbymom Alright thanks guys. I’ll think about taking 3
