not able to contact roommate?

im sure many people have experienced this, but i was just wondering how common it is for your roommate not to respond to emails etc. that you send them before you meet....

from my point of view, i would think they would be as excited as everyone else (like people on this board seem to be) about starting at an awesome college in a few weeks, and they therefore would respond quickly to emails and stuff to learn more about a roommate...

anyone had this difficulty? what did you do?

If you were given a phone number, try using that...some people just don't answer their emails.

Yeah, my roomie has not tried to contact me, will not respond to my emails, does not have a facebook, myspace, xanga, lj, NOTHING.

i got my roommates number but i havent tried to call him yet...vice versa. but we're in a 2 bedroom apartment so the half and half thing really doesnt factor in that much.

it would be cool to speak to him though.

see my thread on same problem:

what if ur roommate is in a different country and you have NO way of contacting this person....?

lol...well I haven't been able to get in touch with my roomie either...just let it be known that if he doesn't reply by next week (we move in on the 13th)...I will be bringing all of my OWN appliances and he better not touch *****... :) lol

It could be that your roomate could be in a country and he/she doesn't have easy access to the Internet just as you do at home. I think you should give the person a chance and you'll get a fidback.

(From me) Congratulations on getting into college...

Don't get upset if they don't respond instantly. Some people just aren't that into the computer thing or are occupied with other stuff.

My roommate didn't respond to the email I sent her...but a few weeks later her dad did. It turns out that she's out of the country on a mission trip.

Also, it's really better to just send one letter or email and just wait for them to respond...you don't want to freak them out, you know.

If it's a school e-mail address, perhaps they haven't set up their account yet. I agree that you should try calling.

I got my roommate info a few weeks ago and I tried emailing her but it didn't work. So I tried again and again and go the same message, somethign about a fatal error with the email address! So anyways I finally gave up and decided to call. I got to talk to her and it was pretty cool, it turns out the school had misspelled her email address, but she had emailed me like 5 mintues before I called (I think she thought I was creepy for calling right away, but I didn't know she had emailed me) I think you should atleast try calling. I mean whats the worst that can happen?

i dont have their phone # though....

tough i guess.
