Not able to take any AP/advanced math classes?

I’m a graduating freshman and my courses this year included:

-Biology
-English honors
-Algebra I
-French
-Creative writing (elective)
-PE

My GPA for this year is 3.9 (non-weighted), and I know I can put the same work in as next year so I’m not worried with that. I’ve signed up for a few typical sophomore APs and I’ve enrolled in a summer program that will let me take honors geometry next year.

In elementary/middle I was relatively below average in school, meaning that I never applied to take Algebra I in 8th grade, instead taking regular Pre-Algebra. This was because I had pretty bad depression and didn’t get my act together until near the end of grade 8.

With the path that I’m on in math, I’ll have to take Algebra II honors in junior year, when I apply for college.

This has me concerned because I won’t have AP Calculus AB/BC on my transcript to show colleges in junior year, because I won’t qualify for that until I finish Algebra II.

Will a respectable college accept someone with average math courses?

Also, I’m on the cross country team and track team, if that makes a difference. My times are not too great though so I won’t be getting any kind of scholarship out of that though.

Yes, but if you were really concerned, you could take Algebra II next summer, or double up on Geometry and Algebra II next year.

Despite what you may infer from reading posts on this website, taking calculus as a HS senior is the exception, not the rule.

Why are you applying to colleges in junior year?

Is applying to college as a junior not something most people do?

No…most people apply fall of senior year.

Okay then. Still will having average math from freshman-junior year be a disadvantage?

I imagine if you are applying as a math-related major it might, but otherwise you should be fine.

You can still finish high school with precalculus, which is actually still ahead of many people who may opt to take an easier math or no math at all.
