I just found out that for the second year in a row, I was not accepted into the Columbia Science Honors Program. I am a rising junior. I am extremely disappointed, but I guess I expected it. Still, my parents aren't gonna be pleased either. Especially after my SAT II scores. Aaargh. My focus/strength is in math and science anyway, so this is kinda bad.

I didn't study as hard as I could have for the SAT II. I'll retake in October. That'll be ok, but my parents are disappointed. My grades in school are pretty good.

I got rejected from SHP as a rising sophomore and then accepted as a rising junior, so keep trying!
Also, reflect a bit. Did you study enough for your SAT IIs? How are your grades in school? What do you love about science/math in general?

It could have been ECs, I guess. I don’t have very strong math/science ones . . . yet. Does not getting into this program reflect on my ability to get into other prestigious programs/ivy league colleges?

I was rejected by TASP, RSI, and MITES (0/3). I was accepted by Georgetown, UChicago, MIT, Cambridge, Edinburgh, SOAS, Manchester, York, Dartmouth, Swarthmore, and Harvard (11/12). Don’t freak.

wait, are you referring to the columbia shp that goes on on Saturdays during the school year?
If so, ECs aren’t a part of the application, and the transcript and 200 character “essay” aren’t really taken into consideration. Acceptances are based primarily on your scores on the entrance examination.

As for colleges, they only see the ECs you actually do, they won’t see what rejects you. Yeah it’s disappointing, but find something else you love, this won’t affect your admissions as long as you fill your time with other cool stuff.
