Not advertising tranferring- mail

How have/ are people handling "other schools'" mail? At my current school, my roommate and I share a mail box. Any package (the size of an acceptance letter) would have to be picked up from the front desk of my dorm. I don't want to let people know I am transferring until I am certain, and picking up a bunch of letters with other school logos would be rather revealing. I live too far from home to have my mail forwarded there first. Does anyone know if a P.O. Box is big enough? Are there any other tips/ suggestions/ advice? Thanks.

if people ask just say you are gathering info regarding grad schools or keeping your options open.

Or tell them it’s none of their business.

^ what he said

If you’re that worried about what others think, go to your local P.O. or MBE and check on what size boxes they have available.

If you rent the very smallest P.O. box, they will hold your bigger mail in the back and stick a note in your box to let you know that it is waiting for you to pick up.

Thanks, Happymom. I think I will do that.

Is your mail office staffed by students? I know it’s kind of a stupid question but all schools are different. The people who work in my school’s mail room are pretty impartial to the mail they receive. Also, a lot of schools I looked at and submitted preliminary applications to indicated that the address you indicate as “home” is the one where the decision will be mailed. Again, this also varies but hopefully it won’t require too much research on your part.

When actually picking up the mail, I usually have my backpack with me around campus so I just put stuff straight in there until I get back to my room. If you share a mailbox with your roommate, keeping this a secret would require some persistent checking of your box, but at least getting stuff in a backpack keeps it a bit more discrete.

The mail room is not staffed by students, but I would have to personally pick up packages from people I know pretty well. Thanks for the info about my home address.
