note: I plan on writing a supplementary letter explaining the lack of extracurriculars, due to the fact that in my freshman and sophmore years, both of my parents health began to fail, my father had both his hips replaced, and my mother almost died of lupis. As proof, my father actually wrote a self help book titleled (a painful journey) in an effort to offer advice to others undergoing hip surgery. I had to help them daily, and had little time for anything else.

I am putting big effort into my essays, haver a close relationship with my counsler (she does handle evaluating you) and know I can get some good to stellar teacher recomendations

I am applying all over the spectrum from
cleveland state (possible free college)
Miami university,
ohio state
Harvard

What are my chances, and please be honest, but remember, you are critiquing my lifes accomplishments.

Your other schools seem like good matches, but Harvard is honestly a waaaaaay reach, unless you come up with some killer kick-a** essay about your trials and tribulations, etc.

thanks, any more ideas from others?

cleveland college - reach
Miami state - reach
Ohio state - match
Harvard - safety
Okay first of all if you even bother to read this, I thank you.

jk but if you're this much of a liar, your essay explaining lack of EC wouldn't work. If you're a really good writer just write the main essay on how you helped your parents daily, rather than a supplementary essay to explain your lack of EC.

Liar, dont quite understand your meaning here. plus, I didnt necesarilly arrange tthose colleges in any order.

I'm basically agreeing with the first responder. I'd just like to note two other things. First, unless your school factors quarter (rather than semester) grades into your GPA, I don't think colleges will see that C in one quarter of Bio so long as its a B for the semester. Secondly, if you're looking for scholarships, especially at state schools, make sure to work on those SATs. In my experience, money from state schools is often numbers-driven. Of course, if you're tied for val, that probably won't matter too much; you'll get serious money almost certainly.

You've got a rather unique story and you seem like a pretty remarkable person, so you might be able to get into an Ivy, and if not Harvard, certainly consider other schools of very high calibre.

cleveland state (possible free college) -in
Miami university - in
ohio state -in
Harvard - rejection, dont apply

Harvard - impossibly high reach
Miami University and Ohio State - matches

I disagree with MrPrez about Harvard. There's a high chance you'll get rejected, but you have a pretty unique story and come from an outreach area (basically, where colleges want to recruit more applicants and thus increase geographic diversity). You should emphasize the fact that if put in a more rigorous academic environment, you feel you would be able to reach your full potential. While Harvard is probably one of the most selective Ivies, they do let in some exceptional cases they feel would benefit from attending their institution. So give it a shot, but don't get overconfident and think you're going to get in.

Also, I believe the Common App as well as other college applications has a space in which you have the opportunity to clarify any part of your application (without restating ECs or awards, etc). If I were you, I would explain how your parents' health issues prevented you from doing ECs.
