Two of the three optional questions on Delaware’s Common App honestly don’t apply to me. I have nothing to answer with, even if I try to stretch something to fit the question. If I left those two blank, but still answered the remaining question, would it hurt my chances of being accepted?
I personally would not leave anything blank on the Common app. What are the questions?
Relate a personal experience in which you were denied an opportunity or treated unfairly. How did you resolve the situation? If that were to happen during your college experience, what would you do?
Describe an accomplishment that took a great deal of time and/or effort on your part. What motivated you to persevere when it got challenging? Who or what did you turn to for support, and how was that helpful?
These are Optional Questions in Delaware’s Writing Supplement section of the Common App.The first one I have nothing. The only thing I could have used for it was already used in the general Common App essay. The second one I just might have come up with something, but I’m unsure of how it will work.
It would definitely be your best interest to answer the second one.
If they don’t apply to you, don’t worry about answering them. The writing supplements really are optional, and it would be better to not answer than have to really reach for something to write about and have it be painfully obvious that it’s not really applicable.
My son decided not to answer the questions, although I told him that he should. I personally thought it was foolish. However, he was accepted with merit money. I guess it didn’t hurt his chances in the end.
