Not applying anywhere special, but can somebody give me an idea

Hey guys um I have a really wierd college list but I guess its because of my really wierd HS history. My first 2 years of HS were complete trash, I was at a magnet school in New York City where I was taking mostly AP's Fresh and Soph years, I had like a 73 avg. HORRIBLE I know. Then my parents transfered me out, which is easy to do living in NYC cause their are hundreds of schools around but anyway. I got a 98 average at the school in my junior year and have continued the pace early in my senior year. My SAT's were 1880 which is decent but not great. Im Captain of the Chess Team, was at both High Schools and Junior High as well. I am on Varsity Baseball, our team made it to the city champ game at shea stadium last year. (We Lost) I am a starter, a few D3 schools have recruited me but knowhere im interested in going, so i dont plan to go the baseball route. I will have killer reccomendations from my teachers so there is no worry there, its just a question is how much of an emphasis the schools are going to put on the first 2 years. My GPA on the 4.0 is about 2.6 right now, the next terms grades should raise it to about 2.8, which is real bad, especially from what i've read about a 3.4 being bad on this site so you know. Anyway here is my list of schools, most of which are not the type of schools talked about in these forums but whatever I will give it a shot. I consider the first 6 reaches and the other 2 targets. Then I have a few safe schools as well.

Syracuse
Ithaca
Elon
Penn State
Suny Fredonia
Suny Cortland
West Virginia University
Temple University

Thanks so much, I know that there are some big reaches there, but i hope an admissions counselor will look past the 1st 2 years and give me a chance. You never know.

Well the 2.8 won't look great for Temple, but the 1880 should help balance it out. You should be fine getting in here.

penn state is a reach because they put a lot of emphasis on gpa and you're OOS, but you have a decent chance at temple with your SAT scores. I'm not really familiar with your other schools.

Ya that is what I was feeling for the most part. Temple I should hopefully be a fit for and I would be real happy their, so if thats where I end up great. Thanks, if anyone else has some input please feel welcome to give me your ideas on any of the schools.

In addition to what everyone else has said, the SUNYs are high matches for you.

Keep in mind that most schools look most seriously at junior and senior grades.

"Most school," meaning most private schools. Private schools are more likely to disregard the first two years of high school because they generally don't have to go by raw numbers as much as state schools. That being said, the SUNY system is big enough that there are plenty of exceptions to the rule. I am guessing that you have already discovered on your own that Cortland and Fredonia are probably exceptions, for example, and they each are fine schools as well. My observation is that if you see a group of guys walking across campus together at Cortland, they are more likely headed to the gym to play basketball, rather than going to the music building to jam. The reverse is true at Fredonia.
