Not being matched due to financial needs

If you are matched to a college and you cannot afford the amount of money deducted, what happens? Is there a possibility of not being matched if you cannot afford even the deducted amount?

A couple of things come to mind after reading this post and some of your others:

First, I see you’re a junior this year. It’s great you know funding college will be an issue for you and are planning ahead and exploring your options. I’d encourage you to watch how much time you spend here. It’s addictive! As an IB student you’ve got lots on your plate. One of the best things you can do to make college affordable is to keep up good grades which is something done one day at a time.

Also, I noticed you mentioned NYU as a possible choice in some posts. From what I’ve read here they don’t give very good financial aid.

Now, moving on to your QB question:
Every school that I can think of, whether a QB partner college or not, has some sort of student earnings expectation. This usually is comprised of what you are expected to earn during the school year through a term-time job and of what you are expected to earn in the summer. Many schools will let you offset your student earnings expectation with outside scholarships. You will have to check the websites of all the schools in which you’re interested to see what their policy is regarding outside scholarships.

Given your background with lots of community service, you should really be looking for scholarships during your senior year. You might be in the running for the Gates Scholarship which I think covers your term-time job expectation. I’m not totally up to speed on it, but there is a forum here where you could find out more. You mentioned being half AA and 1/4 Native American. Are you an enrolled tribal member? It is worth checking whether you would be eligible to apply for Gates both as AA and as Native American. Also, there are some good Native American scholarships for tribal members.

I have a few thoughts on your family FA situation as a whole which I’ll try to address in a later post. I’m running out of time tonight.

I defiantly threw NYU out the window when I read that their financial aid is not the best. I also eliminated a few others after browsing the life of worst financial aid in the Princeton Review (I know one college was on there that I could not eliminate, but I forget).

Thank you!
