Not Catholic - Chances?

My teacher said his daughter got accepted into MIT and Princeton, but not Notre Dame. She had high scores and everything else was good, but she wasn't Catholic. I was thinking about applying even though I'm not Catholic (I'm Hindu), is it worth it? I know they admit some applicants and want diversity, but is there a % that I should know of before spending the time to write the essays for the supplement? I'm #1 rank, 31 ACT, have a lot of ECs and good leadership, 300 hours community service and a great essay on business and diversity, but is it worth my money (application fee)?

I assume you are applying RD. I would apply only if it is a school that you know you would feel comfortable attending. Son was not Catholic, either, with similar stats (higher ACT but used SAT scores) and applied EA. But, when he applied he had spent some time on campus at a ND summer program prior to his SR yr of HS, so he knew that he liked the school and would be happy if he were accepted. I would suggest that you apply only if you are sure you would be comfortable. Son only applied to schools that he knew he wanted to attend (he had visited prior, etc.). But, everyone is different--and I personally think essay plays a huge part in the app process.

do they actually take religion into consideration in decision?

^They definitely can't have a school full of Muslims and Buddhists (no stereotypes in that statement), just saying that they need a Catholic majority to keep the title of a Catholic school. I'm in a Catholic private school right now (and I actually get the highest grades in the Theology classes many times), so I'm sure I could mention how I fitted in, but I definitely wouldn't mind going to ND. It's interesting to consider, but graduate might be a possibility if it's appealing. Thanks for everyone's opinions!

they take very little consideration into your religion when applying - i know a ton of people who are non=catholic which go there - even some atheists. but it is a school founded upon Catholicism and draws heavily upon the catholic population throughout the world... so there really is little benefit to being catholic - other than you are not a minority in the sense

They do not need a majority of Catholics, the vast majority of Catholic schools don't have a majority. It is just that the vast majority of ND applicants are Catholic. They do NOT take it into account with admissions.

jackbauer- Did you see 24 Redemption? I can't wait for season 7.

I was the onl non-catholic from my high school to get in (7 others applied that all were Catholic)

so i think you're fine
