Not chances but want to know if I HAVE a chance

Hello all, its been a while since ive been on here.

For a while I have been yearning to go to Texas, McCombs. I am currently a Junior. My GPA before this year was a 3.62 UW but has dropped to a 3.56 UW, while my weighted has RISEN from a 4.15 to a 4.21 this year. I go to a highly competitive school in NJ (top 10 school) that does not rank because of the abundance of overachieving students (a.k.a Asians).

I have taken the SAT once and have gotten a 1970 (i caught a cold the night before the test and got a severe migraine during the test) and a 1310/ 1600 (which is the McCombs average I believe). Hopefully I can get it over a 1400 if I study throughout the summer and stay healthy.

I do robotics at school which I am a leader of. I have done internship at a hospital over the summer of sophomore year, I am joining EMS volunteering, and I will be orienteering internationally over this coming summer.

I have seen that Texas does not consider GPA as much as other top tier schools do. If I do not get into McCombs, I am hoping I get into the school in another major and then try to transfer/ double major.

Do I have a shot at getting into Texas? If so, do I have a shot at getting into McCombs?

use silverturtles method to study for the SAT

Yes, you have a chance at getting into UT, whether you can make it into McCombs is another matter altogether.

By statute, UT cannot admit more than 10% non-residents. Here is the latest report on the statutory admissions scheme–start at page 4 and read the holistic review rubric involving the calculation of AI and PAI for OOS applicants. You will see that while GPA itself is technically not considered, your class rank–which measures your GPA in context among your peers–is a significant factor, as is your SAT score. In cases like yours, where your HS doesn’t rank, you will see by following footnote 6 that UT will estimate your rank based on your GPA and the grade distribution provided by your school. Note, also, per footnote 8, UT doesn’t superscore–they will use your best single sitting SAT score.

And here is the McCombs page discussing how their admissions are handled. Review not only the tab for Freshman admits, but also the tab for Internal Transfers. Bottom line, the admissions process at either state is highly competitive:
