Not completing major req?

Anyone heard of UCB/UCLA accepting a transfer applicant who did not finish the major prereq's by spring, but still got accepted?

I may not be able to finish all my prereqs by spring (unless I really cram my winter/spring quarters) :o

yah i heard some... if the major is not impacted they usually do.

Yeah, I've heard some people haven't finished some prereqs before and still got accepted. What is your major and the classes that you're not able to take?

Thanks for the replies.

Psych major: there's two bio courses I would have to do for Berk; and one bio (different from Berk) and one phys for UCLA.

It's coming down to: do I fulfill all reqs for one college, or do I make both 'half happy'

Another question: what happens if I list a major prereq for spring, but am somehow unable to take it due to scheduling difficulties (full class, class cancelled, etc)? Am I expected to go to another CCC at the same time to get it done? If accepted, would admission be rescinded?

Wait a sec, mine has 7 pre-reqs but UCLA recommended to take at least 2 by app time. Will I NOT be admitted if I don't finish if they don't require all of them to be completed. My major is impacted btw. Communication Studies. I was hoping my gpa would be good enough. :/

And my CCC doesn't offer the last two courses. :/

@alansda,

If you're unable to take a class in the Spring, that should be reflected in your application update. The earliest (priority) deadline for the application update is January 31st. If you're forced to change your schedule after you submit your application update, then you should notify your UCs in writing. If you tell them you'll be taking the class, and don't notify them if that changes then it's very likely you'll have your admission rescinded come summer.

It sounds like this major is highly selective. By "complete at least 2 by app time" did they mean by Spring '08, or maybe were they saying you should have 2 done by Fall '07 or earlier? I note that the major prep document on assist.org says that you should complete as many pre-reqs as possible prior to transfer, subject to availability. It seems to me like if they go as far as requiring a 3.50 GPA then they're going to expect as many major pre-reqs as you have available at your school.

But, if you don't have a class available at your school then it's my interpretation that not fulfilling that pre-req will not substantially damage your chances.

Hope this helps,
Joe

2 finished by Fall 2007. Thanks a lot, KGZotU!

i guess i'll just have to wait and find out! :)

For the major of Psychology it is crucial that you complete all possible perquisites for Berkeley. At least thats what it says on the transfer flyer.

Not to sidetrack from the thread but what about not completed a math prereq before Spring quarter? Will UC's still accept even though a college math prereq (for all majors) has not been completed before Spring quarter?

supermang,

Sounds like you're talking about the UC transfer requirements?

Just to clarify, there's no before-Spring deadline on anything. It's a good idea to take some classes before Spring, but AFAIK there's no requirement that you have to fulfill before Spring. This includes the "seven course pattern" requirements: two composition courses, one math course, etc. For most campuses, though, you have to complete these courses before Summer, ie: during Spring.

Hope this helps,
Joe

I was told by a berkeley rep that for my major (neurobiology), if I didn't have at least 80% of the major prereq's and 1 year of Organic Chem (really stressed this one), my chances were pretty slim.

my friend didn't fulfil all the math requirements for pysch major and she got accepted to ucla
