So today I got a mail saying that I am no longer being considered for the merit and presidential scholarships but that they have only accepted about 15 % of the students they will admit. Are these accepted students accepted because they are finalists for scholarships?

Basically, I dont understand why they send acceptance letters in waves instead of just all at once

THanks a lot! and congrats to those who got admitted!

Did you get an acceptance package or just the letter? Many people seem to have received acceptance packages but without scholarship consideration.

I have also received that letter; it seems like it’s just telling me that they’re not considering me for their two largest scholarships and to be patient to hear news later.

I wasn’t expecting to get it, but it would’ve been nice to have had a chance…

Can you clarify that your letter says you are not in the running for TRUSTEE and Presidential scholarships? In the past MANY students not admitted in the early wave did indeed receive one of the hundreds of other scholarships USC offers.

Yes, smiley612, I too think that is what he meant. I wanted to be sure others would not read that and think there were no more merit scholarships to be awarded - there are MANY - so I was clarifying.

Smiley, if these letters are saying that only 15% of their acceptances have gone out, that means 85% of them are still to come. Which would mean that while you may not be getting a Presidential or Trustee scholarship, your chances for admittance, other scholarships, etc. are not too far from what they were three days ago. You just may have to wait a bit longer. I know it’s torture - hang in there!

@alamemom
what do you know about the bacc md interview?
would i have already been accepted if i were to get an interview?
which means… no acceptance = no interview?
please help! @jazz/shreddermom
thanks… i know you know how hard it is right now
ahaha

Hi. My son also got this letter today. Does anyone know if this is just a form letter sent out to all 30,000+ applicants? It is from the Dean of Admission and is an update on their process. It says “although I am sorry to say you were not selected for further consideration for the Trustee or Presidential scholarship, you are still being considered for other scholarships. In addition, if you are admitted, named a NMF and select USC as your first choice institution, you will receive a USC Presidential Scholarship.” My son is not an NMF, and USC knows that, so this letter is not completely personalized and based on him specifically. It seems to be some type of “form” letter but to how many applicants??? Everybody???

Rice - I answered your duplicate post on another thread.

smiley, I am not certain of this year’s procedure, but in past years those invited to interview for the Bacc/MD were accepted in the first wave.

My S also got this letter that Rice1961 referred to. We didn’t think he would be offered a chance at either the Trustee or Presidential Scholarship since only 1,000 applicants, out of 22,000 who applied by 12/1/10, will be given that opportunity. We are hoping that he is offered a 25% tuition-paid scholarship down the road. Congratulations to those who were one of the 1,000 applicants who made the cut. Good luck to all of you still waiting for good news from USC!

Students,
It is a great disappointment to learn that you have not been invited to interview for the Trustee Scholarship. Celebrate the fact you have been admitted to a highly selective university that is a “dream” school for thousands of students.

On April 2nd students post here with fine grades, scores and ECs who have NOT been accepted. Many are heartbroken and express their feelings in posts on this board.

We are hearing unofficially there was a much larger pool of applicants this year. Last winter there were roughly 45,000+ students, including transfer applicants, who applied to the university for admission.

inspiration, there are several letters. 1. Acceptances with scholarship interviews. 2. Acceptances without scholarship interviews. 3. “No scholarship” letters that say no decision has been reached yet on your admission status, but you will be notified by April 1.

Only students who received the first two are “in.”

My guess is that everyone who applied by Dec. 1 should soon be receiving the “no scholarship letter” if they don’t receive an acceptance in the next few days. (Although last year there were many people, including my son, who never received the "no scholarship letter. Might have been a mail glitch or a USC glitch.)
