<p>I don't plan on drinking in college for two reasons: 1. My family has a history of alcoholism and 2. I'd rather be in complete control of my actions.</p>
<p>I don't have a problem with others drinking, but I would still like to have a lot of close friends or even a girlfriend who don't either. How hard would it be to find this at Berkeley? Are there ways to have fun at Berkeley besides getting drunk? Are there any parties at all that don't involve alcohol?</p>

<p>My friends and I do not drink. We play video games, walk around, go to San Francisco, eat lots of yummy food =d, and do many things together. </p>

I’m a girl going to Berkeley this fall and I don’t plan on drinking either; I don’t like the taste of soda at all and don’t anticipate liking the taste of alcohol. So if nothing else, you won’t be entirely alone :)</p>
<p>Several people choose not to drink. As long as you don’t look down upon those that do, there shouldn’t be any problem. People who actually give you a hard time about not drinking aren’t real friends anyways.</p>
<p>I got two and a half years with no alcohol and don’t think it got in the way.</p>
<p>Then again, I also generally keep to myself and amuse myself with work and games (mostly work now that I’ve got my act together), so there was never really any reason for me to drink in the first place. Your mileage may vary, but it’s hardly impossible to have fun here without alcohol.</p>
<p>I am finishing up my second year and so far have not drank any alcohol. Nor do I go to parties, but I have socialized with my floor mates before while they were intoxicated and they are entertaining. According to a statistic posted by the health worker for the floor I live on, about 28 percent of Cal students do not drink, or something like that. There are plenty of things to do that are fun that do not involve alcohol.</p>
