So, I attended a university this past semester (receiving Stafford loans, and only Stafford loans).

Now, I am transferring to a large community college and did all the necessary things to have my fin. aid switched to my new school.

Today, I check my financial aid status at the new school and it says, "Based on the income and asset information on your FAFSA, you are not eligible for aid this semester."

How is this possible?!

I am really stressed out now, thinking I may not be able to attend, so I am hoping this is some type of a mistake.

Thanks in advance!

Some community colleges don’t participate in the Stafford loan program- for instance the three Seattle community colleges- have you checked with your university to be sure they don’t have you down as continuing to attend?

It is possible they don’t participate in the Stafford loan program. It is also possible that they do their best to try to keep students from borrowing unless it is absolutely necessary. Some CC’s in my area do not package loans in the financial aid package - so for those who are not eligible for grants it looks like they don’t qualify for any aid. However, students are able to borrow Stafford loans if they complete and submit a form requesting them.
