I’m in grade 10 in high school and I want to study medicine internationally. I have many volunteer opportunities where I am tutoring or working in medically relevant environments such as clinics. I am also part of a co-op program where I assist in medical research at a local university for two hours each day. I do vocal (singing class offered in school, worth a credit) and will continue in grade 11 and 12. I’m absolutely horrible at sports and would never survive anything like that, but I know I do not have very many extra-curriculars. By how much will this decrease my chances at a university? Could it make or break an acceptance? Thanks in advance!
You could spend a little time working on your understanding of getting into medicine as an international. You would fare way better studying to be a doctor in Canada. Do some research in the pre med section here on CC and hit the Canadian forum for details on how this will affect you. Will you be a full pay student? Your parents will shell out much $$ for a US school when you can pick several great schools in Canada for peanuts? Look at your options at home.
@Sybylla Thanks! I’ll definitely look into it, staying in Canada isn’t entirely out of the question. That aside, how much will my extra curriculars affect acceptances even in Canada? I’m especially looking at University of Western Ontario and University of Toronto.
