Not enough leadership...

So I've gone to a different high school every year, and because of that I'm severely lacking on extracurriculars and leadership. This year I plan on running cross country, doing boxing on my own, joining clubs, doing community service, and hopefully at the end of the year I'll be accepted into some honors societies. But as for leadership experience, it usually takes at least a year to get any type of position, and I haven't had that opportunity yet. I did serve on the student conduct committee in ninth grade but that's all. Does anybody have ideas on positions I might be able to get? And more importantly will colleges frown upon this or accept that I haven't been afforded the opportunities as other people??

you can start your own club
or attend leadership conferences such as NYLC or Lead

try doing some community service with mentoring children, Boy and Girls club, community centers, YMCA, that kind of thing.

What grade are you? If you’re about to be a junior there’s still time if you try to be some kind of leader. You don’t have to be a pres, just actually be a leader.

I’m in the same position… I joined my first club this year, but it was class council. I’m too new for anyone to know me, so I didn’t bother running.

Just create an Invisible Children Club at your school, sell some shirts and some food, and things will start flying.

I’m in a similar position, I have no leadership positions whatsoever. Like, period. I have a decent amount of ECs which will be skyrocketing by the beginning of next school year I believe, but no leadership positions; I consider myself a leader by actions, not by position.

I do worry about the lack of leadership positions for college apps, though.

well my major problem is that I want to attend USMA, which begins applications spring of junior year, so although I still have junior year to make up for this stuff, that’s really not enough time, especially considering that most of the leadership positions are elected in the springtime…

I have like no leadership. It was no big. The closest I came to leading were a couple of things I was in charge of in a group where I’m only a member (directing a few charity drives, hosting yard sales at my house), and doing some teacher-y things. It was no big.
There need to be more followers than leaders.

I can totally sympathize with you. I’ll have attended 3 different high schools in 4 years, and as a result my leadership positions are severely lacking. I believe that under these circumstances, the adcoms won’t hold it against you since they’ll see that you’ve transferred schools so much. What matters more in this case is that you continue to pursue your greatest areas of interest in spite of moving around.
