i was kinda concerned w/ the fact that i dont feel like any of my skools r "true" safeties. im possibly considering the honors programs at ohio state, michigan state, or maryland as a safety possibility. any other suggestions? or am i fine w/ my list as it is?

I think you'll most likely get into BU and GWU. I don't know if they're true safeties, but I know people with a lot lesser stats than you that got in.

BU is probably going to reject you for being overqualified. Theyre sick of people like yourself using them as a safety, while people like myself lose out on spots because of you...

jPoD, you're so wrong about BU. They wont reject him, they'll probably offer him a scholarship to persude him to go there. The salutatorian at my school got a full 4-year scholarship there.

GWU gives good merit aid that is mainly based on numbers from what I know. His GPA/SATs could probably get him some good merit aid there, as long as everything else is in line.

i kno that gwu gives scholarships to the top 20% of its admitted class, but money isnt really too much of a problem. so im just really looking at these safeties in terms of academics, particulary at the honors programs at these schools

If you are worried that a school is not a safety, then it is not. These days there are reasons not to be cavalier. Some of those schools on your list need some demonstrated interest, and with as many schools as you have, you may be hard put show it on every application. There was a time when someone with your stats would not need a safety. Now, though it is a small chance, it does happen that kids like you do end up being surprised with the rejections. For peace of mind, I would suggest applying to a school with rolling admissions early so you could get that out of the way. Honors programs at state unis are certainly a good route to take. Just make sure that you can get the courses you want at your safety rather than just picking it out of the air.

BU is probably a safety for you, but maybe you should apply to a public school? It depends on where you live because in-state students usually get better aids.

^^^ Exactly my point. And yes, BU is starting to recognize that people are using them as a safety, and thus rejecting them unless they show interest.

You have enough safeties, if you want apply to Michigan in September, get in by October (rolling admissions), and never worry about safeties. I would dump NYU, its nothing like the others on your list and I have known 5 unhappy students there for every happy one.

Looking at your list consider adding Vassar if you need another match, and Brown and Dartmouth seem like good reaches to consider given the others on your list.
