Hi guys, i have a unit-related question i hope someone can help me with.

Basically, i've been a full time student since fall 2009, but i placed into intermediate algebra, which was 5 units. So really, during the fall i only took 8 transferrable units. The summer before that i took a 3 unit art class, which i'm pretty sure is transferrable. And this spring i completed 15.5 units.

My gpa is 3.9.

All together, including a 3 unit summer class i'll be taking, i'll have 29.5 units completed by november, by which time i hope to begin applying to schools. My question is if 29.5 semester units is enough to apply with?

I’m pretty sure you can apply. Just as long as you plan on having all your requirements and 60 units done by spring. I think most people have about 30 units completed when they apply. Then all you need is a moderate 15 units in the fall and 15 units in the spring. Your good.

Just make sure you have 60 units by the time you finish you last semester at CC.

Also damn how is intermediate algebra a 5 unit class? My calc 3 and linear algebra classes are only 4 haha. Maybe it just has a really long lecture.

wait isn’t intermediate algebra basically the math you’d take as a freshman or sophomore in HS?

wow haha. Yeah, contrary to popular belief, slacking in HS is never an acceptable option as it’ll set you back no matter what.

I take it you mean that by the end of this summer you have have 29.5 units completed.

this is perfectly acceptable and is about normal. 15 unit a semester is the standard load.
the ideal transfer route(when you come in with nothing) has you at 30.0 units at this point. you’re only barely behind. Apply in November and include all your grades. Then update in January with your fall grades. They will look at these three terms in making their decision. Winter and Spring grades don’t affect the decision, BUT if you do poorly your admission can(and will) be rescinded.

if UCB or UCLA are your goals, consider picking up some clubs etc. if you desperately need ECs, make sure they’re related to your major. If anything else is your intention, don’t worry so much and keep your grades up. Make sure you do as many prereqs as possible. UCLA and UCB will(or at least can) reject you for missing prereqs, even if they aren’t offered at your CC.

You could apply with like 10 units if you said you were going to take 50 units by the time you transfer. The only issue you may have is I don’t believe you can TAG unless you have 30 units completed at the time you submit your application, but since you want to go to UCLA you can’t tag anyways.

I was wondering the same thing. I completed 12 units quarter units at ucr before transferring to my ccc in winter 2010. Do those 12 non-CCC units count toward the total? i reallyyyy hope so, because I want to tag T_T

Yeah, more for financial reasons than anything. And 8 of those 12 units actually fulfill IGETC, but I’m just concerned because they werent taken at a CCC.
