Not exactly sure about major/schools to look at

I am very interested in design and communication, so thus communication design. I would say I excel in photography/computer-y stuff, but I don't necessarily want to get into really fine-art stuff like painting and drawing (although drawing seems to be inevitable...) or a dreaded "foundation" year. Am I asking too much?

Design/Visual Communications?

And what schools would I look into? I'm thinking maybe Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse,....

Thanks.

NYU’s Gallatin school offers individualized study, so you could formulate your own communication/design major. I know a person who applied to Gallatin ED for communication/advertising design.

Okay, thanks. Are individualized studies viewed with the same legitimacy as general majors? Idk I’m having a lot of trouble finding schools with the major that matches…Carnegie Mellon seems to have a good program, except it is very selective!

If you’re also interested in the business part of communication (advertising, branding, etc), check out MCAD’s B.S. program. I see only one of the foundation classes as a requirement. (My D has to take 3 in the illustration program). http://www.mcad.edu/visualization
