Not Feeling So Great About My Chances.... Suggest Some Safeties?

Okay, so I'm not feeling too great about my chances for admission or financial aid to my schools... and I've come to really dislike my safeties, so I'm hoping someone can give me a good last minute "emergency" safety school, in case my fears and apprehensions come to fruition.

GPA: 3.55ish (several B's first semester of senior year... though I had four APs (out of six classes total)
ACT: 31
SAT: 1960 (760R, 580M, 620W)
SAT II: 2190 (800 World H, 740 Bio E, 650 E Lit)
EC's: Science Fair (awards won), lots of political campaigning, NHS, Drama Club, Academic Team, Governor's School, play violin

I'd like an urban campus (part of my problem: safeties were too rural when I visited after I applied), but need a school I'd have a really good shot of getting into and one that provides a lot of fin aid (I'm going to have a very low EFC... I hope the EFC I get matches by low ability to pay much).

And yes, I've applied to my state school as a safety, but its in my hometown and I would really prefer to get out of here.

Can you tell us where you have applied? Any particular area of the country?

In addition to the state school, I've applied to:

GWU
American
Oberlin
Kenyon
Centre
Macalester

I'm pretty open as to what part of the country, though I'd prefer to stay out east, if only for my family's benefit.

Your stats are fine -- write about your struggles, how you felt like giving up but then rose to the challenge by writing a sincere essay. Use your feelings of being trapped to show the colleges what you are truly made of. Show your depth, your insights, your soul. Be yourself and take what you are going through and fly with it!

Thanks, but I've already applied lol. Actually I applied like, a month ago. I'm less concerned about getting in inasmuch as I'm worried the money may just not be there, both on the colleges end and my end.

Apply to some SUNY's, maybe Penn State, Illinois, Delaware, Vermont as some safeties. It really depends on your choice of major though.

U of Colorado Boulder or Denver?

Redknight: what are your academic areas of interest? Other urban safety school possibilities: BU, UVM.

Urban safeties: Goucher, Eugene Lang, BU, Northeastern, Drexel, Temple, Tulane

My academic interests tend to be political/social/governmental. I wish I could narrow it down more, but I'm going to have to wait until school for that lol.

i definitely suggest BU, they have great poli sci.

CU Boulder is an amazing school but not urban--I couldn't imagine how anyone wouldn't love Boulder though.

Try a few great colleges that are SAT optional like Wake Forest, Holy Cross, F&M

DePaul in Chicago might be worth a look for you.

I would also add Clark University to the suggestions.

I am also in biiiiiiiiig trouble, My stats are CR 640,Math720.I am planning to apply to college like lafayette, trinity,F&M .But I need to find a good safety college as now I am not sure about my chances.do suggest me some good safeties or the colleges that I should apply.

The University of Minnesota at Morris?
It's quite rural, but it now offers bussing to the Twin Cities on the weekends.

Earlham, Beloit, Lewis & Clark, Goucher, Sarah Lawrence
