Say I'm applying to a UC, and my major's prerequisites include Calculus 1 and Calculus 2.

I originally intended to take Calc 1 in fall and Calc 2 in spring, and then transfer the next fall, but alas, the times they are a changin', and it looks like I may have to retake Calc 1 in the spring, which means I will have not done Calc 2. If I have a GPA in the 3.6-3.7 range and have completed all other prerequisites, would UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara not accept me?

I can't stay at JC for an entire additional semester just for one class, and it's not available during the summer. Would UCD and UCSB really turn me down for not having completed that one, final prerequisite? My major is Business Economics (UCSB)/Managerial Economics (UCD), if it makes a difference.

I would not be concerned:
"Transfer students who wish to declare the business economics major must complete
the following four courses with a 2.75 grade-point average, with no individual
grade less than "C": one microeconomics course, one macroeconomics course, one
statistics course, and one calculus course."
Seems like you do have the ability to finish the other calculus course post-transfer. I am curious though how your school just starts spring early january; we still have like 6 months of school left at my school at that point.

Hm, actually I'm thinking my school's Calc 1 and Calc 2 are considered "one calculus course". They're actually titled MATH3A and MATH3B. >_<

Anyways, my school's schedule is:

Fall: Late August to late December (roughly 4 months)
Spring: Mid January to mid-late May (roughly 4 months)
Summer: Late May to mid-August (roughly 3 months)

I have the exact same problem as you. I signed a TAG with UC Davis and got approved. and just like you, I have this dilemma that I've been stressing over for a while now. Help!!!

I am 95% sure Math 3A counts as "One calculus course."

For UC Davis, it is mentioned that "transfer students are strongly advised to complete as many preparatory courses as possible for their major before enrolling at UC Davis. Preparing well for the major helps students move efficiently toward graduation." The language here is "strongly advised" not "must." Furthermore, you will be admitted as pre-Managerial Economics and can only declare after one semester. So as long as you complete the Calculus 2 before declaring your major, I believe you will be fine. I'd say schedule an appointment with a counsellor to verify this further.

But if you're on TAG and the Calculus 2 is listed as a course that needs to be completed, you should double check with UCD and explain your situation.

Yawn: Yes you can take courses after you transferred. Plus, you still have a chance of getting into those schools. Do remember that the majors you are trying to apply for are competition based meaning there is no guarantee that completing the pre-reqs will get you into the major.

Davis_girl: I suggest you call UC Davis about the problem, its possible that they will let you take a course over the summer. UC Davis gave my friend this option although he signed a TAG and his major was competitive. Ask now before its too late.

So your friend was able to push back a required course on his/ her TAG agreement just by explaining the situation to a UC Davis rep? I will definitely call tomorrow. I am only missing one pre-req so I really hope I can take it during the summer and not by Spring 2009... anyways. Thanks for the response!
