I go to a small school so there aren't many sections of each class and classes fill up quickly. There is only 1 section of a particular anthro class that I want (a prof died) and it filled up before I could enroll. I want to be an anthro major so I'm worried that not taking an anthro class the 1st semester would put be behind other potential majors. There is Add/Drop day tomorrow but unless someone else drops the class I won't get in. I signed up for an into tp philosophy class in the meantime along with Spanish and French. Advice? Thanks!!

You need to talk with your advisor. He/She would know best about whether this would put you seriously behind or not.

^agreed.
There might be a gen ed class like English or math that you could take in the meantime so you don’t get behind.

Contact the prof and try to get an override. Unless it’s a pre-req to every anthro course, I doubt very much you’ll be behind.

The nice thing about college is that you can stop comparing yourself to other students. You won’t be “behind” other anthro majors, you are just taking courses in a different order. Everyone has the same requirements, but how you fulfill those will differ from others, especially when it comes to getting gen. ed. requirements out of the way vs. courses for your major. I student taught my junior year, even though most do it senior year, and I took some electives within my major others didn’t take. That is why you can end up taking classes that have fresh to seniors in them, or at least a mix of two different year students. Enjoy it…college is a lot more “freeing” than high school, and you don’t have to worry about the kid seated next to you.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, missed the deadline for my CS Class/Lab because I was waiting on AP exam results. E-mail your professor with your preferred class, explain the situation and mentioned you’re an anthro major. He will give you an override which will get you into the class.

see if you can still get in somehow. if not take another class you need. even another anthro class if possible. like it has been said, people take classes in different orders all the time (obviously some classes you have to take before others but yea). talk to your advisor, they will help you better than we can.

I ended up getting in guys!!! The prof raised the cap…
