Hello,
I recently just finished my freshman year of college and I didn’t receive too hot of grades. I think I can do better, but I don’t want freshman year to weigh my average down.
Is it possible to JUST put my GPA on the resume from sophomore, junior and senior year, and say that this sub-GPA doesn’t include freshman year?
Thank You
You had better clearly mark it as such, and be prepared to answer when they ask why you aren’t including them.
I don’t think “I didn’t like them and wanted to hide them from you” will endear you to employers, but that’s just my guess.
You can also leave your grades off altogether. I don’t have my undergrad GPA on my resume. They might ask later, but your goal is to get the interview. I would not lie. You might be able to put just “GPA in major” on if that is good, but you do need to include all classes.
I have never been asked for my GPA or my grades for a job-ever. Not once. Neither has my husband. Ever.In fact, I don’t know anyone who’s ever had to provide that information. I’ve also never known a job to ask for an entire transcript or listing of every class. I’m sure there are jobs out there that do require such information, but the job posting woulod likely specifically list such a thing.
What you do want to do is bring up your grades in the event you ever have to provide them, so that you can show an upward trend. If a company is going to refuse to consider you because you got a B or a C on English 101 but had a string of top grades following that, do you really want to work there?
What are you using the resume for? Is it for jobs, or are you planning to apply to graduate school?
