I found out at the beginning of this semester that I would have to take another math class for UC on top of completing spanish 2 and 2 classes for my minor. I've tried and just can't do it w/ my schedule, work, stress, gas prices, etc. So, I have officially dropped calculus and will have to take it or statistics this summer.... it is a shame that UCs don't accept summer grades for core reqs.Sigh

Guess this means my space, assuming I would have even been offered admission, will be open to another transfer. :) I am happy, relieved and hopeful that I can now pull an A in each of my remaining classes. Ugh, I'm still kind of disappointed in myself, but my relief pretty much cancels the bad feelings out.

Think i'll wait to see if I even get in and then fax a formal letter to each admissions dept. explaining I didn't meet the reqs. Is that pretty much the way to do it or should I call next week?

i dunno... I might wait and then if you get in call them and explain and beg to take it in summer school (maybe at the UC if they wont allow it from your CC...) or say you'll make it up as soon as you get there even if it means paying extra to take an overload course or something. It's worth a shot... they might say no but at least you'll have tried. I guess it depends how much you really want to go there.

Wait, are you not going to complete IGETC or your major requirements? IGETC is not a requirement, in fact, some majors are discouraged from following IGETC. For most majors, IGETC is used to ensure you don't have to repeat courses at the UC where you transfer. I believe you can take IGETC courses the summer before transfer.

Is this for your MAJOR or MINOR? However, major requirements may not be taken at CC summer before transfer. Check with each UC though, each may have different guidelines. I am not sure about minors. Even then, fulfilling major requirements is not a requirement for acceptance. It might make you a more qualified applicant, but it won't totally kill your chances. For example, I'm required to take Theories in Poli Sci for my major (Poli Sci), but because my CC doesn't offer it, I didn't take it. I was told that I would just take it when I transfer.

I have a question about IGETC also. I stated that I'm IGETC certified, when I applied and updated my application, I put Spanish 2 in summer 06. But I checked my admission contract, they just listed I should follow my plan on my updated list only. Am I IGETC certified??? or UC's just don't care about it?

I think he ment to say lower-division for his major.

Like bfired2 said IGETC is not required for admission but if you cannot or choose not to finish, you cannot compleat the requiremnts once you transfer. You then heve to finish the GE reqs of the school you trasnfer to. Usually the courses you took for IGETC will apply to most (but not all) of the requirments.

IGETC is essentially required for admission into UCLA and B for the majors that it is recommended or allowed for.

And other UCs often reject highly qualified applicants simply because they will not complete IGETC in time; it is a far more important element of the process than GPA.

You are in the same position my friend is in he is suppose to complete spanish 2 for the igetci by the end of this semester but will not be able too so he will take it in the summer. He notified the schools he knows he will not attend even if he is accepted to see what will happen, so far those schools have not released a decision for him. He did not tell UCSD until after they admitted him and it has now been over a month with no word, letter, or email of his admissions being revoked. Im not saying later on his admissions may not be revoked but his philosophy is that he's not going to notify schools like UCB and UCLA until after he is admitted so at least he will know that his stats were good enough for him to be admitted and it was just that one class that messed him up. In the end do whats in your heart.

Calculus and Stats are a requirement for UCs only. The math class I completed was something like "math for social sciences", and it only applies to CSUs. Unfortunately, it is written in the UC transfer booklet that all gen. ed. math classes (w/ algebra as a pre req) have to be completed by the spring prior to fall enrollment.

I have decided to wait and see if I am even accepted, why bother writing letters that aren't neccessary. Also, if one of the schools offers winter enrollment, I can still take the math through fall '06. So, we'll see what happens.

ShirleyxY,
I think spanish 2 may be one of the classes that can be finished by summer. because you would still meet minimum reqs for english, math, other classes, and units. good luck!

Hmm, how come he needs to take spanish 2 to complete IGETC? Did he take Spanish 1? The IGETC requirments state you only need 5 or 4 units of forgein language to satisfy it.

Bfired,
your class will count, don't worry. the class that I took was basically algebra 1 for college, which is all you need for a CSU, but not UCs.

regarding spanish 2,
my school currently requires two semesters of spanish for the uc igetc.
which is weird because initially a counselor told me only one class was needed, although, the same counselor told me my math class was adequate, so...

I have finished english 1a, 1b, 3 semesters of calculus, and all the areas of IGETC, except Spanish 2.

willdo that is true you only need 5 units to satisfy the language requirement but it has to be at the second level. Meaning you can not satisfy it with spanish 1.

uhhhh.....WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? OMG!!!!!! Please tell me you aren't serious I took French 1A a 5 unit class to satisfy my language requirement.
