Not in the top 10%

So I'm starting to get really worried about not being the top 10% when like 70% of NYUs admits are in the top 10%. I go to a really competive public school (IB World school - I don't know if any of you guys do IB, but a lot IB kids are super competitive and pretty much have no lives which makes beating them in the rankings hard.... so hard that my school has two class ranks - one including IB kids and one not. I think thats bull).

Anyways, I'm just wondering how much not being in the top 10% will hurt me in my chances at Gallatin RD. My other stats are below. Thanks for any opinions.

Don't worry about class rank. It's just a small factor in admissions anyways--some schools don't even give rankings.

wow! but with a 3.85 GPA, i wonder how you were stll 62nd in ranking. In my school, a student with 3.85 GPA is in the top 5%

wow my schools must suck then...well actually i know it does with rankings. (its a great school though) we need rankings deleted.

at my school you have to have above a 4.0w to be in the top 15%

my school is very competitive (but international  ) so i do not think the adcoms would see how competitive it is. oh well.

Trust me they can tell if your school is competitive or not.
I'm only in the top 30 and applying to gallatin with a 3.5 gpa.

so does all that mean that my rank will really hurt my chances or am I still looking ok for Gallatin?

Yeah. It's all about your essays for Gallatin and knowing what you want to do.
