I'm an Asian American, and I have not been invited to MOSAIC, while several other minorities from my school have. I know that not all minorities who are eventually accepted are invited to MOSAIC, but does not being invited mean that I'm among the worst minority applicants? If I remember correctly, I did turn in my application rather late (like right before the deadline), but many people have said that shouldn't make a difference. Here are my stats:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1014739-please-chance-yale-scea-princeton-vandy-emory-duke-others.html (that was from last October; I got straight 100+'s last semester, my GPA is now a 4.5, and I'm still ranked 3rd, but my class size is now like 436, I'm now a NMF, I retook the ACT and got a 34, and I was voted Most Likely to Succeed; I also neglected to mention on my chance thread that I'm doing research at a university both semesters senior year). I know that I'm definitely not one of the strongest applicants, but is there really a chance I'll be rejected with a 2280/34?? I'm just a bit worried, since most minority applicants I've known in the past few years have been invited to MOSAIC.

I am also Asian American and I was not invited to MOSAIC either. My stats are kind of similar to yours:

SAT: 2400
SAT II: 750 Bio, 800 Math II, 800 Chem, 800 History
AP: 5 APs taken as of junior yr (all scores of 5).
GPA: 4.0 UW
Rank: 2/250
State: CT

My greatest weakness is probably in my ECs, which are very mediocre. However, I am very surprised that you didn’t get an invite. You seem like a very strong candidate to me…your only disadvantage might be that you’re from TN and there’s probably a lot of vanderbilt applicants there…but still. Just out of curiosity, did you apply for any scholarships?

I am an Asian-American and I was not invited to Mosaic either.
800-780-800(12)
800-800-780

I guess we are the worst Asian American applicants ever…

@GoldOwl Your numerical stats are much better than mine, and better than those of most, if not all of the people from my school who have gotten invites the past few years. I’m now really confused about how this whole thing works. =P

I did apply for the Cornelius Vanderbilt and the Chancellor scholarships.

Edit: 20more, before I saw your and GoldOwl’s posts, I did really wonder if not being invited meant I was among the worst Asian applicants, but now, I’m not so sure there’s any correlation…

@amazingme17: I also applied for the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship. I’m hoping that not being invited to MOSAIC will not have an impact on our scholarship chances…ideally, it shouldn’t since adcom chooses the MOSAIC invitees but the faculty members of each school choose the CV recipients.

I applied for CV too and I am not so sure about my chances.

Based solely on quantitative factors, I think we all have great chances of being selected. Guess we’ll find out our fate in a few days…

I got in, but numerically you guys have much better stats than I do. Also Asian American.

GPA - Unweighted: 4.00
GPA - Weighted: 4.65
Class Rank: 16/829
Class Size: 829

Scores:

SAT I Math: 770
SAT I Critical Reading: 700
SAT I Writing: 700
ACT: 35
SAT II Math Level 2 (IIC): 800
SAT II Biology - E: 760
SAT II Chemistry: 800
AP Chemistry-5
AP Biology-5
AP Human Geo-5
AP US Gov-5
AP Calc BC-5
AP English Language-5

However, I didn’t send in my SAT I scores. I guess my extracurriculars are decent, but I wouldn’t say spectacular. Did not apply for any of the merit scholarships either. You guys have a very good chance of getting in though so I wouldn’t worry about it.

part of mosaic is demonstrated leadership in activities related to culture ie volunteering, black/latino/asian student groups, etc. i really think they look for people with strong ecs/essays because my stats aren’t as strong as yours are and neither are my bfs and we both got invited. but i have extensive volunteer work in the hispanic community and his essay was about being mixed race

@amazingme17
Did you get CVS or CS? I am just curious.

@20more
Negative; how about you?

@beginningofend, that must’ve been it.

No, I did not get CVS.

No Mosaic inviatation and no CVS.
I am not sure whether I will be admitted to Vanderbilt.

^ You’ll be accepted, don’t worry about it.

@beginningofend and calibrationx
That would make sense. =)

@20more
I’m sorry. =(
You’ve only posted your SAT scores on this thread, but unless you have absolutely no EC’s or have a really low class rank, I’m almost 100% sure you’ll be admitted. On the other hand, I’m not so sure about myself. =

I really wanted CVS but I did not get it.
I am moving on.

amazingme17: Good luck to you!!!

@20more
Good luck to you, too! =)
