<p>Hello guys. I'm a freshman in high school and I am faced with a peculiar dilemma, I'm not in Spanish Honors in my school. I have tried talking to my guidance counselor but she's really no help and there's no guarentees. All my other courses are AP/Honors and I feel like this is weighing me down. In my school, in order to take AP Spanish, one must be in the Honors class as a prerequiste. They claim I am "too far behind" to now move up to the Honors class. I have a fairly high average and I am involved in my school/community. </p>
<p>Will this affect me at all?
Can I self-study this AP and still do well?
And could this hurt me in the long run? </p>

<p>Any AP language is different than most. You can’t go from Spanish 1 to AP level in a year, no matter what. If you’re in Spanish 4 or 5, I’d say go for it, but any lower and you might be hurting yourself 
don’t fret too much. See if you can take it online 
if you live in fl, Florida virtual school is great!!! If not, see if your hs allows freshmen to dual enroll at your local college, and take Spanish there. Good luck!!!</p>

<p>If you do not take any AP spanish in your high school career you will never get into college. You might as well just drop out now and start up a job in the local gas station.</p>

<p>Self studying <em>language APs</em> is pretty hard…why not try taking it through an online class and doing well in it? Then you could show that grade to your counselor and persuade her into letting you take honors the coming year.</p>
<p>^ Perhaps for you, lol…but my french is lacking…a lot. If the OP is an ace at spanish, then he should probably go for the self study then.</p>
<p>It depends on what kind of language student you are, and what you’re interested in.</p>
<p>If you are motivated, I think you could self study an AP language. You might have to buy books or software online but I think you could do it. Also, there are programs where you communicate via Skype or something like that with a native speaker: you help them with English, they help with Spanish.</p>
<p>I self-studied AP Latin Vergil but I realize that this is a bit different I went from Latin 1 to 5 on the AP in two years total of instruction.</p>
