I am majoring in Medical Laboratory Technology at a community school in the fall. I like the major i’m pursuing, but i’m not really passionate about it. Is that weird?
What are you passionate about? I think as far as college majors, passion is really only necessary if the program is expected to the difficult for you in some way and you must endure. Sometimes passion develops, such as when it clicks for you how you fit into the bigger picture. Liking a major and finding it interesting is enough to get you started.
It’s not necessary to be “passionate” about your major or what you do for a living. Sometimes, what you do for a living is just that - something you do that’s in demand where you live, pays well, and thus allows you to afford to do what you want in your non-work hours. And that’s fine.
If you have a passion, there’s nothing wrong with researching what you can do related to that field, and how to get into it. But if you do not, then if you like med lab tech, and there are jobs in that field where you live, and the pay is decent, finish that degree and get a good job and live a happy life!
Often, your major/education in general is a way to help pay for what you’re really passionate about. Not everybody’s interests line up with the availability of majors.
For example, I love driving. I love sports cars, the thrill of beating another driver, etc. But there’s no way for me to become a racing driver with no start up money. Therefore, I’m going to school, studying a subject that I like, but am not necessarily head over heels in love with. That way, I can hopefully make enough money to be able to own track-ready cars, and race in my spare time.
