But it's always nice for people to know how hard you might have worked to get into a certain school. It says something about you that may make people see you in a different way. Of course, they might also think that you're bragging or something...

everyone forgot cornell and cornell college in iowa.

people may be looking at this the wrong way.

consider:
someone can't tell if they heard penn or penn st

they say, "Penn St" and u went to penn, u think, O I'm a f*in genius, not a rural PA football jock, and u maybe even look down on them. that elevates you, though. (makes u think)

they say "Penn" and u went to PSU, u have to say, O i didn't go to the ivy league school, i went to PSU. and had to pay to go. so if they make that wrong choice, they may make u feel bad. so maybe thats the thinking behind the confusion

maybe

And then there's the Harvard, Haverford (mumbled it sounds like Ha..v..rr...d) combo!

University of Hartford ;).

ppl also confuse wesleyan with ohio wesleyan, that happened to my friend.

that's for two reasons

(1) because wesleyan in ct is more of a niche school (i.e. attracting a certain type of students...hippies) while ohio wesleyan has all types of students though pretty liberal itself
(2) ohio wesleyan recruits more nationally than wesleyan in ct does

i hear the same thing very often, chariot.

Also University of Washington with Washington University

Here is the best Not Penn State story ever . . . I just got an email from Penn State saying I was accepted woot woot, my first college acceptance. I guess it means I'm going to college!

But the funny part was that I called downstairs to my mom and said, I just heard that I got into Penn State. For a second she didn't hear the State part, and thought I heard from Penn early! We were ROFL!!

haha what if you apply to penn state instead of upenn or vice-versa.

suckaaaah

I'll bet that's happened.

stud05 mentioned:

Well, Wesleyan has about a 250 point advantage over OWU in national aptitude scores; if that makes Wesleyan a "niche school" -- so be it.

He also mentioned:

[QUOTE=""]

(2) ohio wesleyan recruits more nationally than wesleyan in ct does<

Um, about 52% of the class of 2009 at OWU hails from the state of Ohio (in other words, that's not even counting kids from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan or Missouri) ; only 9% of Wesleyan students come from the state of CT; only 36% of Wesleyan students even come from New England; only 66% of Wes frosh hail from the entire Northeast corridor, with huge contingents from California, Florida, Texas AND Ohio.

gross, wesleyan.

you don't have to sound so defensive. your first argument shows that you may be experiencing difficulty reading (see my example). my second point was meant to illustrate that ohio wesleyan university recruits more well-rounded, politically and academically speaking, high school students than one-sided liberal-minded hippies which makes for an intellectually one-sided atmosphere [though they probably don't realize it] across the nation. you are also correct that the state of ohio is bigger than ct. in conclusion, my point was better summarized by JohnnyK.

"my point was better summarized by JohnnyK."

So much for the "fair and objective" pretense.

johnwesley,

of course that was a joke.

i won't engage you in further arguments...based on a quick history search you appear to start fights with random users every time somebody mentions something not so palatable about the school that you graduated...20 or 30 years ago[not sure when exactly]. the fact that at your age, you appear to frequent these boards that much speaks better than i can here. not to mention that this thread was about schools that are frequently confused. it was chariot who mentioned ohio wesleyan here and i just explained why this be true.

And according to your own history, you and other OWU alum spend quite a bit of time on the Wesleyan CC board. My gut feeling is that none of you even knew of Wesleyan's existence until you arrived at OWU and realized you had applied to the wrong place.

One day I will be an alum. That day hasn't come, yet. And no, Wesleyan in CT has never been on my list. I was and still am interested in different type of schools - the ones that provide excellent education but where you can get all types of students even if I don't necessarily like everything about them. Diversity was key to me - geographic, academic and political. So, I was interested in Wooster, Ohio Wesleyan, Earlham, Grinnell and even Reed but not your school. Thanks for the insightful comment anyway...no need to hijack the thread with irrelevant exchanges any further.

Penn is a great school, btw. I can't imagine angry Penn Staters flaming its CC board with misleading statements about how much more diverse it is geographically and academically than Penn. But, such is the Ivy League cachet, I guess; Penn doesn't have to bother with such petty annoyances.

True. Though I also haven't seen any Penn grads who are the age of my dad spending as much time on the internet as you do. I wonder sometimes how that outcome correlates with the value of one's time.

Ever hear of multitasking? :)

I have. I have experienced it many a time when I work (?) as a work study student at Ohio Wesleyan though I never thought somebody twice my age would stoop so low.
