So basically, I do not qualify for financial aid at all, and even clicked no for all of my common app schools, but realized that my parents applied for aid at all of the schools I applied to anyway. will this affect my decisinons to those schools? some of the schools are need blind but some seem to be need-aware and tend to care about finances in their decisions. thanks in advance.
How did they apply for aid without you using your FAFSA PIN? And a need aware college will look at how much they might have to come up with and balance that (and the strength of your app) against the rest of the potential students.
@"Erin’s Dad" would this affect my decision negatively though for the need aware schools? because I did say that I wouldn’t apply for financial aid in my common app but did anyway, despite the fact that I definitely wouldn’t receive any money. my parents were under the impression that it was necessary to turn in the FAFSA and others in order to qualify for merit scholarships at certain schools.
with that being said, this shouldn’t be an issue for need blind schools as they make their decisions separate from the financial aid aspect, correct?
Yes, filing the financial aid paperwork is necessary to be considered for merit at some places. It also is necessary to file the FAFSA if your parents want you to be able to take out a student loan to help cover some of the costs.
Need-blind institutions do not look at need when making admissions decisions.
Need-sensitive institutions will look at student need, but if you don’t have any need by their standards, that won’t be an admissions problem either.
But you seem to be worried about this, so drop an email to the various institutions, and let them know that the paperwork has been filed after all.
^ Good post.
